As a Director of Global Corporate Communications, you will be responsible for protecting and enhancing the new Consumer Healthcare company’s reputation as it becomes a standalone entity (poised to be a FTSE 100 business on listing), particularly with US audiences. This will be done primarily by:

  • Building and managing relationships with US media publications
  • Managing the company’s news flow, developing strategies to generate interest and land stories in US outlets
  • Monitoring and analyzing the broader US corporate and business agenda, to identify opportunities and potential risks as they relate to our business

This role sits within the External Communications team in the new Consumer Healthcare company’s Corporate Affairs function. It is strategically based in the US to support our largest market and while it will be heavily focused on US media, it is part of the global team that manages corporate communications at a Group level.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include:

  • Developing strong relationships between the new Consumer Healthcare company and top-tier media based in the US to build further understanding of the company’s strategy in its largest market
  • Inputting into broader group communications strategies, including messaging and content development to build the company’s reputation
  • Producing and delivering proactive strategies around news flow, and maintaining interest in these announcements over time through “content campaigns” (eg, media features, broadcast documentaries)
  • Leveraging an established US media network to land stories in line with the broader strategy
  • Where applicable, contribute to media strategy and communication plans for key corporate events such as financial calendar and broader business updates
  • Being a senior, trusted counsellor for internal stakeholders including senior executives on a) the media, b) story generation and c) media handling. This would involve supporting in the delivery of briefing materials to company spokespeople ahead of media engagement, in partnership with the local market teams as appropriate
  • Partnering with US Business Unit communications to engage specifically around the positioning of the group’s key brands
  • Working closely with Government Affairs teams to leverage media engagement to support the group’s public policy agenda and create awareness of self-care policy priorities
  • Working closely with digital communications colleagues to maximize digital reach of announcements across channels and devise appropriate content (video, social media, infographics etc).

Other items to note:

  • The role will be a key point of contact for the wider team and senior stakeholders both internally and externally, including interaction with roles up to and including CEO, CFO and other CET members. This means the role requires personal and professional authority to influence and gain trust.
  • The role will frequently handle highly confidential and price sensitive announcements/issues relating to business strategy including working with senior leaders and Corporate Secretariat as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years’ experience in communications in multi-stakeholder global companies or organizations, with a specialism in media relations
  • Proven experience of working in a fast-paced, global + matrix team.
  • Track record of “global thinking” and delivering communications with measurable outcomes
  • Exceptional judgement and calmness under pressure
  • Strong, dynamic, highly articulate communicator with excellent writing skills, across a wide range of media (including digital)

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master’s degree
  • Additional training/education in communications
