Description

We are searching for someone ready to take the next step in their career and join UPMC as the Director, IT supporting the Corporate Information Services team!

As the Director, IT, you will provide leadership to the strategic utilization and operation of multiple technology products and services within the business unit or enterprise. The Director is further responsible for leading and developing a team of Managers and their staff to ensure that talent and resources are aligned in support of business goals and objectives and performance standards are maintained and often exceeded.

Responsibilities:

  • Operations (Technical) - Translates business strategy into measurable, executable work plans for the department. Leads Managers, Senior Managers or individual contributors from all career tracks (people, technical and project management). Accountable for management of IT Applications, Infrastructure, or Services for one business unit and/or department (including High Availability, established Service Continuity, & Service Level attainment). Negotiates for services, manages appropriate UPMC processes, and ensures quality service (internal and external) delivery.
  • Complexity - Directs Department specific projects with a forward-thinking strategic focus. Sets priorities and resolves conflicts within scope of the department. Monitors effectiveness of program responsibilities.
  • People - Manages talent, performance, career development, recruitment and all HR responsibilities for direct reports and signs off on HR decisions for staff in span of control. Understands talent management goals for the organization and succession planning. Fosters optimal utilization and development of talent across the organization and focuses on development plans.
  • Vendor/Partner - Relevant Vendor relationship management. Negotiates for services, manages amendments with appropriate UPMC processes, and manages invoices with vendors.
  • Business Unit Operations - Directors, VPs, Chairman, CMIO, Hospital C level, and/or Administrators
  • Budget - Owns a portion/all of the capital and operating budget within department. Works with Senior Director or VP to define BU budget needs and priorities. Manages to an approved budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with ten years of successive experience in a technology field in a multi-faceted user environment, with at least five years' experience in a management capacity. OR
  • Master's Degree in a related field with seven years of successive experience in a technology field in a multi-faceted user environment, with at least five years' experience in a management capacity.
  • Experience with Citrix server, application and desktop virtualization, networking, software as a service (SaaS), and cloud computing technologies is highly preferred.
  • Ability to foster a commitment to continuous improvement and customer focus across the organization.
  • Strong project management, problem solving, organizational, relationship, communication, and negotiation skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Experience in leading a continuously improving environment with a track record of achieving significant development year after year.
  • Proven ability to promote collaborative thinking among leadership team.
  • Financial modeling, operational efficiency analysis and forecasting skills.
  • Proven leadership history in creating an environment that fosters learning, collaboration and enabling diverse teams to succeed.
  • Ability to foster a commitment to continuous improvement and customer focused service across the organization.
  • Ability to quickly understand the business and IT's impact on operations.
  • Participates in IT strategy planning activities.
