Position Summary: Leads the staff in dining services to ensure a vibrant and safe dining experience for residents and guests and an efficient dining room operation; welcomes and seats diners to efficiently manage flow and balance server capacity.

How you will serve our residents and our community:

  • Consistently and genuinely demonstrates the STARS principles of Service, Teamwork, Action, Reputation and Success in all activities and interactions.
  • Attracts, retains, coaches, motivates and leads the dining server team; holds the team accountable for meeting mission, quality, safety and other performance standards.
  • Monitors operation of the dining room and performance of the service team; provides coaching and direction as needed; escalates issues to senior manager as appropriate.
  • Prepares schedules for dining servers, ensuring adequate staffing and appropriate distribution of assignments.
  • Personally conducts or oversees the training and onboarding of new dining servers.
  • Greets residents, families and guests upon arrival to the dining room; responds to inquiries and offers assistance as needed.
  • Monitors available seating and staffing; escorts residents and guests to appropriate tables to ensure efficient distribution for the best possible service.
  • Implements and monitors safety protocols in the dining room; sets a strong example and holds associates accountable for practicing a culture of safety.
  • Monitors inventory of dining room supplies, ensuring that associates are exercising appropriate cost controls; assists in ordering and/or maintaining inventory.
  • Monitors dining room to ensure the area is clean and in proper condition; notifies management of needed repairs and/or replacements and possible safety hazards.
  • Oversees and assists with dining related programs such as special events, private parties, meal delivery, and guest dining.
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate department records such as reports, files, time records, and schedules.
  • Participates in and attends all in-service training and education programs as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities:

Directly manages the dining servers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with BVSL policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


With our residents in mind, the right candidate will have:

  • Minimum of two years' dining server and/or hostess experience with one year of supervisory experience in a service environment. College degree in hospitality, culinary arts, or business discipline strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to connect and communicate effectively, in English, with diverse populations.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer orientation to older adults.
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm and energy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
