Digital Designer Details

Patagonia, Inc - Ventura, CA

Employment Type : Full-Time

Role: Digital Designer
Reports to: Associate Digital Creative Director
Location : Ventura, CA

As the Digital Designer, you will work in collaboration with Art Directors, Copy Writers, Web Developers, and Operations to build digital experiences for Patagonia.com, email marketing, and social media creative. Your work will promote thoughtful and educational product experiences, elevate the customer journey, use engaging storytelling, and/or inspire action for the planet.

You will play a key role in orchestrating a customer-centric journey, innovating for digital platforms, bridging gaps between contributors and stakeholders, and educating others on design thinking and digital best practices. You are passionate about people & the planet, dedicated to quality, committed to integrity in how you work and how you treat others, and ultimately not bound by convention.

What You’ll Do:

  • Create low fidelity designs (wireframes, customer journey maps, content outlines, etc.) to communicate ideas and fundamental strategies at the beginning of a project.
  • Create high fidelity design (prototypes, comps, animations, final deliverables, etc.) to ensure quality of work and to communicate the intent and details of the final experience.
  • Work on Brand, Product, Film, and Environmental campaigns.
  • Be prepared to develop concepts and ideas from the ground up, pitch ideas to stakeholders, and create compelling, relevant, and meaningful work.
  • Work on multiple projects, prioritizing as needed and efficiently managing time while giving and receiving strategic direction.
  • Owning the design process end-to-end, moving from concept through to final, at multiple fidelity levels and producing handoffs to support that process.
  • Learn and ideate within a project or from project to project and help identify new opportunities.
  • Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables.
  • Create clean and descriptive production files for developers.
  • Ensure the usability, consistency, brand relevance, and functionality of the finished product.
  • Keep up to date with the latest digital technologies, advances in web and mobile technologies.

Who You Are:

  • Passionate: About user-centered design and the desire to influence your own development –and that of your discipline. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions, and where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
  • Empathic: Solving problems requires a myriad of perspectives, methodologies and processes. Beyond all of that, you’re a human and possess a high level of self-awareness, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative: As Yvon Chouinard writes in Let My People Go Surfing, “Our best efforts are collaborative, and the Patagonia culture rewards the ensemble player while it barely tolerates those who need the limelight.”
  • Inclusive: Deeply experienced in collaborating with others across difference and bringing in new perspectives and underrepresented narratives in the customer experience.
  • Organized: Put bluntly, you meet deadlines and help others meet them too. You manage details and keep projects on track using checklists, check-in meetings or whatever is needed.

Experience You Bring:

  • Minimum 3 years of professional digital/UX design experience.
  • A strong and well-rounded foundation across visual design, customer-centered experience design, interaction design, and the creative process.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Pixel-perfect attention to detail.
  • Experience working on a range of digital projects including responsive web pages, paid media, email templates, digital tool kits, creative technology, or customer journey-based executions.
  • Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of modern web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and of native iOS/Android apps.
  • Strong project and people management skills. Must be able to function as a project leader as well as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be able to articulate design intent to other members of the team, and project expertise and confidence to stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or comparable and relevant experience.
  • Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, or proficient motion design experience a plus.
