Digital Construction Operations Manager

The DCT operations manager supports both Digital Construction Team operations, as well as execution and oversight of DCT services on select projects. This position ensures the development and implementation of DCT systems, the R&D pipeline and DCT services across all Dowbuilt’s regions. DCT services include: BIM Modeling/Coordination, Existing Conditions Coordination, Digital Fabrication and Research and Development.
Responsibilities and Duties
DCT Implementation
- Implementation of all DCT service offerings for select projects. This includes BIM modeling and coordination, parametric scripting, 3D scanning, clash detection, total station surveying, digital fabrication, and R&D implementation.
- Provide on-site 3D scanning and total station surveying services. This may require travel and in-field transport of equipment and installation of registration markers.
- Provide oversight, mentorship, and assistance of DCT project implementations for select projects that require additional support.
- Develop relationships and coordinate with fabrication shops, BIM modeling contractors and prefabrication manufacturers that provide strategic advantage to select projects and DCT service offerings.
- Develop relationships with project principals, project managers, project engineers and other Dowbuilt project team members to build visibility and provide new opportunities for project engagement.
DCT Operations
- Develop and maintain DCT system documentation, standards and management systems that provides the team with streamlined implementation, quality assurance and manageable processes for each service offering.
- Manage and facilitate employee development and education of DCT team members. Devise and coordinate walk-throughs, classes, and educational-minded events that advance the collective knowledgebase and capacities of the DCT.
- Participate in performance review process for DCT members by providing relevant performance feedback and assistance with goal setting.
- Support the DCT Manager in strategic project development and staffing projections and placement.
- Support DCT digital asset management, modeling standards, scripting, codebase versioning and overall asset maintenance.
- Develop and present DCT presentations for various audiences internal and external to Dowbuilt for the increased visibility of the division and advancing business development opportunities.
- Support code-based data objectives and develop skillsets around python coding and Powerbi data analytics and general coding develops and conventions.
R&D Pipeline
- Support the identification of R&D objectives, development and collection of key metrics and a perpetual interest and pursuit of new technologies related to construction, architecture, and fabrication.
- Develop concepts, presentations, and proposals for on-going and new R&D objectives.
- Support the management, schedule and cost oversight and tracking of the entire R&D pipeline from initial conception through to project implementation and the perpetual feedback loop.
- Support the operations and maintenance of completed R&D objectives and identify and correct issues or pain points as they arise.
- Develop and foster relationships with principals and project managers that may provide opportunities to implement R&D objectives for on-going and upcoming projects.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, building science or a related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in architecture and construction (residential preferred)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Revit, Rhino, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and Bluebeam required
- Comprehensive knowledge of Grasshopper and Dynamo scripting
- Proficiency with 3D Scanning (Faro S70), Point-cloud processing and analysis (in-house training to be provided as necessary)
- Basic knowledge of Python, data analytics with Powerbi and Pandas (in-house training to be provided as necessary)
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Experience with web based SAAS applications such as Smartsheet, ShareFile, Slack and Asana is preferred
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of people
- Respect, honesty and excellent communication with internal team, subcontractor, and client
- Able to effectively follow disciplinary processes in coordination with Human Resources
- Able to establish and cultivate professional and personal contacts in Digital Construction and AEC industry; represent the company in professional organizations
- Able to proactively identify potential projects, opportunities, and objectives for DCT to engage on
- A desire to remain informed and educated on the newest construction technologies, hardware and software
- Able to mentor and delegate responsibilities to team members whenever appropriate
- A desire to support recruiting and interviewing efforts in concert with the General Manager and Recruiting Manager
- Able to adapt quickly and effectively to changing circumstances
