The Advanced DRT (CT) performs computerized tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest, and body with and without the use of contrast material. He/she explains the procedure to each patient and gives instructions for successful completion of the exam, confers with the radiologist on establishing requirements of non-standard procedures, assists in determining proper CT protocols for various disease processes, and assists in performing needle biopsies and other invasive procedures.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
Grade Determinations: At the GS-09 level, you must have one full year of experience at the GS-08 level or equivalent directly related to the Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) position. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Experience performing computerized tomography of the head, neck, spine, chest and body with and without contrast materials; 2) Experience ensuring all necessary preparations and supplies are available to complete examinations and explaining examinations to patients; and 3) Experience in determining technical factors to product and satisfy requirements of CT scanning. At this grade level, employees are fully functional as an Advanced DRT and are able to carry out their assigned tasks independently. The candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
i. *Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures
.ii. Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
iii. *Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
iv. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
v. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.vi. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
