As a member of the National Desk, the Designer/Page Editor
is responsible for the production of nightly Nation/World pages and the
syndication of wire content for our partner newsrooms. Daily tasks include
creating news digests from a budget of content from wire sources, editing
stories for length and accuracy, writing headlines and selecting photographs
for use with stories in addition to designing largely formatted pages with a
set of consistent style guidelines. In this role, a Designer/Page Editor is comfortable with working quickly and accurately in Adobe InDesign and works well under deadline pressure. A strong command of the English language and grammar, copy editing experience and familiarity with AP Style guidelines is essential. A Designer/Page
Editor must apply newspaper production standards such as headline writing, headline hierarchy and basic page design fundamentals and displays strong, effective communication skills.
Required skills:
The Designer/Page Editor must be proficient in InDesign, have a zeal for news and must exhibit strong news judgment. Familiarity with daily newspaper production cycles and newsroom content management systems a plus.
