37.5 Position Focus:
Reporting to the Yale School of Music (YSM) Director of Communications, the Manager leads YSM's marketing and design efforts across all media, crafting the look of the School's marketing strategies and employing the strategy tactics (i.e. website management; e-marketing campaigns; creative services; digital advertising; branding identity monitoring; and more). Essential Duties
1. Assist the Director in the design and production of publications, concert programs, and all digital and print collateral. Lead the full design process from concept development, to page layout, to print production for core annual YSM publications such as Music at Yale, season concert brochure, admissions viewbook, and other branded collateral. Manage print vendor relations and adhere to budget constraints and production timelines. Train students in desktop publishing to assist with design production. 2. Manage the content, governance, design, development, and maintenance of YSM’s website, including third-party integrations and online accounts. Identify and implement improvements to user work flow. Develop strategic partnerships with technical partners to help design and develop more streamlined user experiences. 3. Oversee the work of third-party consultants and other vendors (web developers, designers, and photographers) to produce new digital material. Research current and developing web technologies and monitor sites of peer institutions to stay abreast of developments. 4. Assist in the creation, management, and implementation of YSM e-marketing strategies in support of school-wide communications efforts, including development of weekly emails promoting concert offerings and on-demand e-blasts targeting YSM constituencies. 5. Assist in digital and print advertising strategy and implementation for partners throughout YSM, including planning, scheduling, and reporting. Identify areas for improvement and new opportunities and technologies to utilize in these efforts. 6. Oversee the planning and production of concert posters and displays. Manage and optimize project management and workflow in collaboration with the Concert Office. Oversee in-house printing of routine posters. Manage coordination of (5) Woolsey 3-sheet displays in partnership with Yale University departments and outside organizations. 7. Oversee the creation and distribution of new content for YSM’s digital signage. Develop and maintain YSM’s YouTube channel in collaboration with the communications officer and video producer. Collaborate with the video producer on needed film/TV graphics or typography. 8. Provide art direction to photographers to provide broad range of imagery for various purposes and contexts. Supervise casting of subjects where needed, coordinate photo session logistics, including scheduling, permissions for use of space, and image rights. 9. Provide photo editing (digital and printed) for press distribution, as well as for electronic distribution and web publishing. 10. Develop and maintain YSM style guides with standards in design, typography, layout, and image quality. Consult with the Office of the University Printer to ensure alignment with Yale University branding guidelines. 11. Represent YSM in University committees handling digital preservation of media and recordings and University web accessibility policy. Contribute to the UX strategy of audio metadata and interface design with YSM’s stakeholders in mind. 12. Train and oversee up to three student workers throughout the academic year: Communications Assistant, Poster Assistant, Student Photographer. Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, marketing, or a related field of study, and a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Required Skill/Ability 1:
Proficiency in graphic design (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) and web management (i.e. HTML,Wordpress, Drupal, etc.). Required Skill/Ability 2:
Skilled in designing editorial publications and a variety of marketing collateral; Keen sense ofmarketing trends and best practices in digital marketing platforms. Required Skill/Ability 3:
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple projects for a varietyof clientele (faculty, staff, alumni, students, etc.). Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Master's degree in design, communications, marketing, or a related field of study. Awarenessand knowledge of classical music field. Familiarity with best practices in higher educationcommunications and marketing. Weekend Hours Required?
