Organization OverviewAmerican Music Institute was founded in 2006 with the mission of providing the Chicago-land area the highest music education possible for all instruments, ages, levels and styles of music. AMI offers a multi-leveled, structured curriculum in a college preparatory environment. Programs take place at three campuses in the western suburbs of Chicago in Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove and St Charles, IL, along with other outreach locations in the western suburbs and Chicago. Instruction is offered to hundreds-thousands of students of all ages and from beginners to the Juilliard-bound by over 50 accomplished faculty members.
Reporting RelationshipDepartment Chairs report to the Executive Director and work closely with Program Directors.
Job ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities of the Department Chair include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in the observation and evaluation of faculty
- Participate in the hiring of faculty
- Assist with development and revisions to curriculum as needed
- Lead and hold department meetings
- Provide peer mentoring as needed to new faculty
- Help guide artistic decisions as they relate to shared performances
- Teaching high-quality instruction to beginning through advanced students in the following programs at AMI – College Faculty Program & Conservatory Program
- Partner with other Chairs and/or Directors for other Programs
- Timely and professional correspondence with Program Managers, managing directors, and partnering administrators
- Collaborate with parents, staff and teachers
- Participation in faculty meetings and department meetings
- Serve as an ambassador for AMI and aid in student recruitment
- Public & private school visits – schedule & perform clinics, network with music teachers & other influencers
- Other projects as assigned
Personal Skills/Attributes/QualificationsThe ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated success as a beginning through advanced level playing
- Performance experience at high level
- Demonstrated success with recruitment and retention of students
- Excellent communication skills
- Collaborative, collegial nature and interest in working in a team environment
- Ability to build strong rapport with faculty, administrating, students and parents
- Experience revising or developing curriculum
- Highly motivated
Educational Requirements- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or Performance (or equivalent, relevant experience); Master of Music preferred
