LaSante Health Center a FQHC is currently seeking a full-time dynamic and energetic Dental Assistant who will be a key member of the health team. In this role, the Dental Assistant assists the dentist on all modalities of dentistry (operatory, oral surgeon, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry). The assistant also assumes the standards of care related to infection control; all OSHA guidelines & safety are upheld at the station they are assigned and collaboratively works with other team members of the health center.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Assist with Dental treatments as instructed

Take and record dental and medical histories

Prepare exam rooms, instruments; clean treatment areas

Responsible for patient flow, keeping treatment rooms neat and organized

Instruct patients in oral hygiene

Knowledge of EMR

Ability to project a positive, warm and professional image in person and on the phone

Strong organizational and administrative skills

Must be articulate and service-oriented

Ability to multi-task, take initiative and anticipate needs of others

Reliable and prompt

Works well in a team, with humor, enthusiasm, and joyful consideration of others.

Exposes, develops and mounts radiographs properly, sets trays & prepares room before accepting or discharging a patient

Responsible to sterilize hand pieces, transport instruments for sterilization, I.D. any inoperable equipment, lab work

Provide chairside assistance to the dentist, utilizing proper four-handed dentistry procedures and observing universal precautions/protocols and sterile techniques

Assumes the standards of care related to infection control; all OSHA guidelines & safety are upheld at the station they are assigned

Takes, exposes, develops and mounts radiographs properly (when applicable)

Maintain dental operatory in an organized and clean fashion. Assures that appropriate instruments and supplies are available

Assures patient's comfort while waiting for the dentist

Cleans instruments and prepares them for sterilization

Sterilizes and/or disinfects instruments and hand pieces following guidelines of the dental policies and procedures of the health center

Documents patient records as dictated by dentist

Assists the dentist in filling out charts accurately and processing the patient's forms and records

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area

Compliance with health center and departmental policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma

1 year minimum experience of chairside dental assisting

NYS Dental Certificate preferred

Bilingual is strongly preferred (Haitian Creole, French or Spanish is preferred)
