The University’s location in the Boise valley provides a wealth of regional opportunities: easy access to local ski resorts, mountain hiking, and river rafting; and a wide array of cultural opportunities from the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra to the National Oldtime Fiddlers Festival. NNU has a long and deep association with the Church of the Nazarene, and all University faculty commit themselves to living out their faith in a community shaped by serious scholarship and vital Christian piety.
The College of Nursing at Northwest Nazarene University has deep roots going back to early in the 20th century. The first School of Nursing was established in 1920 to train missionary nurses. Over the years, the missionary focus remained prominent in NNU’s nursing education. The current Baccalaureate in Nursing program was established in 2000 and was soon followed by the Master of Science in Nursing Leadership/Education. The Family Nurse Practitioner program admitted its first cohort in the fall of 2016. As such the College of Nursing mission statement reflects the focus on caring for others as Christ would have us do.
Compassionate care is woven through each program and we proudly graduate nurses who bring those values to their work environment. The College of Nursing offers students and faculty the opportunity to go on short-term mission trips to places like Central America, Tanzania, and Myanmar.
