The park is hiring a SEASONAL FULL TIME, WAGE (non-permanent) position to provide the public a safe and enjoyable environment for recreation and relaxation.

  • Seasonal full-time employment.
  • This position is being posted for the 2021 season, which runs approximately from April to November. Season lengths may differ based on operational needs.
  • Seasonal Wage position. Works weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed; 40 hours/week - 7 day operation. There are no benefits.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is responsible for providing safety and law enforcement at Presque Isle State Park. The DCNR Ranger patrols the park property and boundaries to ensure the safety of visitors and park grounds. Work may involve foot patrol, motorized vehicle, motor boat and bicycling patrols. A DCNR Ranger presents a professional image to the general public through uniform appearance, verbal skills, courtesies and knowledge of the Park's history. A DCNR Ranger takes charge of emergency situations, accidents, organizing search and rescue parties, and administers CPR and First Aid when needed. A DCNR Ranger works closely with the Fish & Boat and Game Commission Officers as well as Local and State Police to present evidence and witnesses, examines and cross examines witnesses, and testifies on behalf of the Commonwealth in court. A DCNR Ranger is responsible for completing daily logs and operates the Reservation and Revenue System.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Must meet PA residency requirement – For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency.
  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - Successful completion of the DCNR Ranger Trainee program; or completion of 15 credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, park management, outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or related natural resource or recreation courses; and completion of a department-recognized police training course such as the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (Act 120), or completion of an equivalent law enforcement officer training or certification program that allows eligibility for commissioning as a police officer.
  • Necessary Special Requirement - Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
  • Condition of Employment - Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
  • Condition of Employment - Possession of a valid certification or its equivalent in first aid and adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as approved by the PA Department of Health for professional rescuers or healthcare professionals.
  • Post Employment Requirement - Must obtain commission as a State Park or State Forest Officer that includes powers of arrest and maintain this commission during employment in this job.
