There are no direct reports with this position.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision the Day Porter performs general custodial duties which may include but is not limited to restroom cleaning, office cleaning, recycling, spill clean-up, cleaning common areas, litter removal and recycling during a customer’s normal business hours. Employees in this job class use proper materials and methods to assure facilities are clean and free of safety hazards. This job class requires knowledge of custodial practices, equipment, supplies and procedures; the ability to perform quality work in a safe manner; and strong communication skills in order to interact with customers.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Clean, dust, and wipe furniture.
2. *Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
3. *Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers and cigarette urns.
4. *Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Refill restroom dispensers.
5. *Cleans cafeteria and breakroom areas. Stocks utensils, napkins, plates, cups, coffee and related supplies. Make coffee and/or set up snacks for events.
6. *Assist with the setup for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
7. *Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
8. *Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds.
9. *Responds to customer requests for cleaning spills and other emergency clean-ups according to established procedures.
10. *Responds to customer requests for service such as cleaning locked offices not serviceable at night.
11. * Monitors inventory of cleaning supplies.
12. *Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
13. *Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.
14. *Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
15. *Take classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products.
16. *Handle recycling materials.
17. *Call in work orders.
18. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed in an office environment, or at a customer’s location, such as a commissary environment, a federal courthouse, or a military base. Employees may be exposed to toxic chemicals, noise from equipment in maintenance environment, and depending on indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to cold or heat.
