We’re looking for a motivated, high-energy professional to join our Field Operations Installation & Repair team!

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair all Smart City service offerings
  • Troubleshoot problems that will require cable/fiber repair, splicing, faultfinding, etc.
  • Install and maintain fiber optic and networking transport nodes
  • Use heavy-duty power equipment (e.g., compressors, pumps, blowers), hand tools, power tools (air and electric), and specialty tools including electric and electronic measuring devices (e.g. multi-meters, volt-ohm meters, OTDRs) in the construction and repair of Copper and Fiber facilities
  • Perform testing and turn-up of subscriber lines and Copper/Fiber-based product offerings
  • Repair and test residential telecommunication service (FTTH, POTS)
  • Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach/detach various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, and buildings
  • Perform continuity and/or conformance testing
  • Read and interpret customer service orders, technical drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
  • Work with telecom color-coded wires, cables, and fiber
  • Advocate to promote and sell Smart City products and services to customers
  • Responsible for following, supporting, and enforcing all internal control processes and procedures and observing company safety policies always
  • Contribute to various projects working with minimal supervision, including aiding other departments and team members, as directed

  • Ability to install and repair fiber-based Ethernet, FTTH, and CATV communications services with specific knowledge of routers, layer 2 & 3 switches, WIFI, and IPv4/IPv6
  • Ability to review and comprehend cable drawings, engineering designs, and identify underground cable infrastructure

Data I&R Technician January 2021

  • Fluent in operating test equipment used to repair, maintain, and troubleshoot Fiber Optic facilities and subscriber drops (multi-meters, volt-ohm meters, TDR, OTDR, Fiber Scopes)
  • Fluent in universal communications color code for both Copper and Fiber infrastructures

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor working environment with seasonal heat, cold, and other inclement weather conditions
  • Driving company assigned vehicle to/from work sites in a safe and responsible manner during adverse weather conditions, heavy/light traffic, or at night
  • Work sites include manholes, hand holes, etc. and will involve extensive walking on various types of terrain, working around objects and machinery in construction areas, and may require confined space entry and ability to work in elevated areas
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and tools; reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist; standing and or walking for extended periods of time; carrying 3-5-pound electronic loading equipment for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 50 pounds or lifting more than 50 pounds with tool aids

Other Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of Fiber- and Copper-based outside plant infrastructure and networking systems
  • CompTIA Network + Certification desired
  • Ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear/recognize audible signals
  • Ability to safely utilize step and extension ladders (up to 25 ft.) or other equipment at higher elevations, as appropriate (i.e., catwalks, cell tower platforms, roof tops, man lifts, bucket trucks)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and outside in all weather conditions and at various hours of the day/night
  • Must be available and respond to after hour call-outs, work overtime, shift, weekends, and holidays, as required, and remain in service during outages until resolved
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
