Job Summary: The Dance Instructor is responsible for instructing students, choreographing dance combinations, taking attendance, controlling the music source (CD player/IPOD), demonstrating dance combinations, and possibly creating routines for performance for recital level classes.

- Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Attend and participate in required safety trainings
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
- Be a positive role model for students
- Responsible for the supervision and safety of the students at all times
- Responsible for instructing students with enthusiasm, creativity, and sensitivity to student learning styles and abilities
- Prepare for classes by planning curriculum for each session including choosing music, creating lesson plans, and preparing props as necessary
- Communicate needs to Recreation Supervisor such as communications to patrons, studio facility updates, prop maintenance or replacement
- Obtain updated attendance sheets at the front desk periodically as recommended by Recreation Supervisor
- Maintain close supervision of children when assisting in programs
- Maintain the ability to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students
- Demonstrate techniques in class as model for students
- Take proper attendance and report excessive absences to the Recreation Supervisor
- Attend scheduled dance staff meetings
- Select music, costumes and attire appropriate for students in recital level classes by deadlines set
- Choreograph combinations, correct mistakes and create routines for performance at the recital for recital level classes
- Attend dress rehearsal and recital and actively help plan for its success
- Follow direction given by the Recreation Supervisor in relation to preparing for classes, securing subs, class management, facility safety, and recital planning
- Provide parents/guardians feedback regarding students progress and questions, or forward them to the Recreation Supervisor for further communications
- Represent the Park District to parents/guardians, students and guests and conduct him/herself with professionalism and courtesy
- Adhere to general rules and policies of the Park District
- Responsible for sanitizing, clean-up and set-up of the dance studio room
- Complete special tasks in a timely fashion including but not limited to preparing for dance department special events and employee training requirements
- Maintain good working relationships with fellow staff members, community members and visitors

Education and/or Experience:
- Experience teaching students of all ages with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds for a minimum of 3 years
- Education background and/or experience in Dance
- Specialized Dance techniques preferred
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Frequently required to talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, and feel and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to stand, walk and sit, climb or balance and push/pull objects
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
