The Part-Time Custodian I position is a non-benefited position, that provides clean, safe, and professional facilities to our students, community, and stakeholders. This position may work on a team or individually to perform custodial tasks across campus to maintain a high standard of facility and grounds cleanliness, attractiveness, health, and safety. This position responsibilities included but are not limited to: cleaning, disposing of garbage, stocking of supplies, use of cleaning (powered and unpowered) equipment for all campus facilities, equipment, furniture, restrooms, common areas, carpet, etc. This position maintains active communication with the assigned supervisor and team; reports on status of work; and notifies the necessary supervisor and/or departments of facility needs including need for repair, supplies, or equipment. Proper protective equipment and safety standards must be utilized at all times in this work area. Individuals in this position are expected to represent the Department and LCCC in a professional manner. This position may require the ability to work a flexible schedule and provide support to alternate shifts or for special events.
The current shift schedule for this position may vary based on institutional need. Working hours will be three days per week.

Compensation: $15.03 per hour. This position performs assigned tasks/responsibilities in accordance with supervisor instruction, assigned schedule, and College policy and procedure. Appropriate protective equipment and safety standards must be utilized at all times in this work area. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Custodial Support Responsibilities: - Actively support and perform custodial services in effort to assist the team in accomplishing custodial objectives
- Perform cleaning procedures for applicable service areas including bathrooms, offices, hallways, carpet, hard services, stairwells, service corridors, labs, classrooms, exterior of facilities, trash collection, etc.
- Conduct spot treatment of carpet and upholstery in their specific cleaning areas
- Complete assigned detail cleanings during student breaks (i.e. carpet, upholstery, deep cleanings, etc.)
- Perform carpet, floor and upholstery cleaning requests
- Completes and assists with weekly logs of jobs completed
- Cleans building entrances including sidewalks, mats, carpet, glass, metal surfaces, corners, floors, etc.
- Cleans office areas including, furniture, phones, lamps, walls, doors, door hardware, wastebaskets, floors, and baseboards
- Cleans corridors and lobbies including sweeping, vacuuming floors, baseboards, spot cleaning carpets, drinking fountains, furniture, drapes, blinds, etc.
- Cleans classrooms and laboratories including chalkboards and trays, furniture, equipment, walls, doors, floors, per area requirements
- May assist with the moving and setup of furniture for event setup and campus needs
- Stock necessary area supplies
- Assist with monitoring custodial supplies and equipment inventories; notify supervisor need to reorder or replace items
- Effectively communicate with team members, peers, and managers through use of two-way radios, email, phone and in person
- Notify the necessary supervisor, Campus Safety, or department of safety/security concerns, damaged facilities, inoperable equipment, or general maintenance/repair needs
- May operate College vehicles in course of completing duties and for transportation to various campus buildings
Nonessential Functions: An employee in this position may perform some of these responsibilities on an infrequent basis. - As needed, support and perform snow removal
- Solicits feedback and implements suggestions from students and peers
- As required attend college, division, and program trainings/meetings
- Perform related duties which employee is physically able and competent to perform as required or as delegated by supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of cleaning methods, safety precautions, techniques and proper use of materials and equipment
- Ability to properly use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal safety equipment
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff, students, and the general public
- Knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional)
- Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means – ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence
- Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from college faculty and staff, regulatory agencies, vendors, regional business community, and others as may be necessary
- Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices
- Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, and follow-through when requested
- Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process) and consider possible applications; including the use of safety data sheets
- Skills and abilities to perform as an organized, self-starter
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to use computers and basic software programs

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to:
- Comply with highly inflexible deadlines; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
- Adapt to a variable work schedule; including night shifts, evenings and weekends as needed
- Interact with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions or may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
- Frequently move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- Engage in multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and carrying of objects
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; a team lift technique is required for lifts exceeding 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to read and interpret building and shift schedules, directions for equipment, hazardous material labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical labels
- Frequent and prolonged use/exposure to cleaning chemicals, exposure to dust, and potential exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens; Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures must be utilized as required
- Able to function in an environment with substantial latex and/or nitrile material exposure and without an allergic reaction
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds
- Ability to effectively listen and perceive the nature of sounds and spoken words at normal speaking levels with or without correction
Qualifications: Minimum: - Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquire
Preferred: - One year of custodial experience preferred
