Durham Unified School District Classified Job Descriptions CUSTODIAN I Under supervision of the Maintenance, Operations and Transportation Manager or Designee follows a schedule in the performance of custodial and light maintenance duties to maintain assigned rooms, equipment, buildings, and adjacent areas in a clean, orderly manner at district work sites. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: ? Working from a prepared work schedule, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile, and wood floors. ? Cleans and dusts walls, furniture, woodwork, lockers, and other equipment. ? Makes minor repairs to buildings and equipment; writes maintenance work orders for major repairs. ? Performs grounds work as directed by the Maintenance Operations and ? Performs other related duties as assigned. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE OF: ? Methods and equipment used in custodial work. ABILITY TO: ? Properly operate forklift and commercial cleaning equipment. EDUCATION: LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE: ? GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
? Picks up paper and other refuse; sweeps walks and corridors.
? Washes, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms and shower rooms.
? Cleans windows and door glass; cleans drinking fountains; may clean and polish metal work.
? Empties and cleans waste containers.
? Opens classrooms for authorized personnel.
? Assists in moving or re-arranging furniture; replaces light globes; Reports safety, sanitation, and fire hazards to the supervisor.
? Operates mechanical cleaning equipment.
? Assists in restoration of buildings and grounds during summer vacation.
? Launders towels and mops.
? Sets building alarms. Turns out lights and secures area by locking doors and windows.
? Transports goods and food from one location to another.
? Performs special custodial work as directed by supervisors, including moving, arranging, and setting up furniture and equipment for sporting and special events and meetings.
