JOB SUMMARY: The paramedic collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide care as appropriate to the population served and in compliance with standards of practice. The paramedic will provide care to patients under the supervision of the Provider and Clinical RN Supervisor of the COVID Therapeutic Unit. The Oncology Director and Manager will provider oversight for Paramedic clinical practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides patient care in accordance with policies and states regulations as approved by the Oncology Director for outpatient infusion therapy. Administers medications safely according to policy, and as permitted by facility guidelines under the supervision of the Provider and Clinical RN Supervisor. Collects and communicates data, reads monitors, etc., and responds with correct intervention to ensure optimum patient care and safety. Provides evaluation of patients and communicates to the care team the patient’s required needs/care per Outpatient Infusion Services guidelines. Executes skills as approved by NC-OEMS and under the supervision of Clinical RN Supervisor for Infusion Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Successful completion of a Paramedic Training Program (OEMS approved) required. Current North Carolina Paramedic Certification required (National Registry preferred). Completion of community paramedicine curriculum within two years of hire preferred.

Experience: Preferably, six months’ experience in a pre-hospital environment as a Paramedic.

License/Registration: Current NC license – EMT-P or NR EMT-P. Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire. Completion of CPI Course required within 30 days of hire. Affiliation with an EMS agency is required to maintain National Registry Paramedic certification. North Carolina state certified paramedics will follow state mandated education requirements for initial and ongoing certification which do not require EMS agency affiliation.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires frequently: pushing 40 lbs; pulling 80 lbs; standing; walking; repetitive trunk rotation-standing; manual dexterity; both handedness (both hands must be used) functional vision and hearing; Occasionally: lifting 35 lbs from floor to waist and waist to eye level; one handed carrying 15lbs; work kneeling; work squatting/crouching; visual color discrimination; and visual depth perception. In the environment occasionally exposed to wetness; slippery surfaces; and accident exposure.
