The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting and the preparation of reports and statistics detailing financial results. The position is responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial statement preparation, maintenance of proper financial controls to ensure reliable and accurate financial reporting and establishing or maintaining accounting practices to ensure accurate and reliable data necessary to inform business operations. This role will work across departments to provide real time support, financial information, tools, analysis, and insight to managers that will assist in decision making to drive business strategy and financial growth.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Manage the activities of the ADVENT accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly and annual financial statements, statistical and financial reports for management and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee the budget process and prepare annual budget and forecasts; develops projections and analysis with recommendations and conclusions for management.
  • Ensure that company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"); maintain control and accuracy of the general ledger; conduct account reconciliations and analyses to ensure accurate accounting for financial transactions; review and approve journal entries.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including preparation of depreciation schedules.
  • Design and modify accounting systems, accounting policies and procedures, and system of internal controls to ensure conformance with applicable statutes, laws and GAAP.
  • Oversee the activities of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of expenditures and expense reports; work with operating departments to control costs and optimize processes.
  • Manage the completion of Federal and state tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use and other local taxes and business license renewals).
  • Manage and oversee treasury functions, including efficient management of cash and other aspects of banking relationships; manage and project cash flow.
  • Manage the annual financial and 401(k) Plan audits, and other audits of financial records, providing worksheets, data, analyses and reports as requested.
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital expenditures, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters.
  • Design and direct the work of the team. Select, coach, and develop staff. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team with appropriate urgency and clarity to drive company and growth initiatives. Manage performance-- recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting required.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in finance and accounting, with demonstrated leadership progression, preferably in a health care or large public accounting firm setting.
  • Experience leading successful accounting teams through the coaching and mentoring of accounting staff.
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, general ledger, financial reporting and expense reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and organizational skills providing the ability to analyze financial and business records, identify trends, and implement improvements or recommendations.
  • Knowledge and/or working experience with NetSuite preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the business requirements in a growth environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, including outstanding presentation skills and the ability to communication clearly at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven process and project ownership orientation with the ability to manage a range of priorities and meet time commitments in a fast-paced results-oriented environment.
