Coordinator of School and Community Safety Details

JOB GOAL: Ensure every child receives an excellent education by leading the safety and security functions that provide students, staff, and community members with a safe environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Guide the safety and security efforts of the District in a manner that fosters a positive student-centered environments that are responsive to the local culture. Ensure that all related programs and initiatives are equitable and foster diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Ensure the District is in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Pennsylvania Act 44, Safe2Say, School Board policies, and District procedures and protocols, and other related regulations as they relate to assigned areas of Provide interpretation and consultation, as needed.
  • Ensure the effective implementation and routine evaluation of all systems that impact safety and security. Provide recommendations to improve outcomes, as needed. These systems include but are not limited to:
    • Emergency Response Plan
    • The card access and security camera systems
    • Procedures, protocols, policy, laws, and regulations
    • Training programs, including implementing drills and table top exercises.
    • Technology systems that support safety and security (Raptor)
    • Pedestrian safety and traffic flow
  • Collaborate with departments and schools to implement safety and security initiatives, including but not limited to partnering with:
    • the Office of Talent and Employee Engagement to lead workplace safety efforts and
    • the Facilities Department to ensure spaces are safe and secure.
    • the Office of Communications regarding press releases and information as pertaining to safety and security, community policing, and public relations.
  • Provide community leadership in the areas of safety, security and community policing. Engage community groups on school security and related initiatives by meeting with them regularly and providing updates.
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships between the District and Police Department (s) in support of the community policing model. Serve as the District liaison for School Resource Officers and oversee the implementation of Memorandums of Understandings.
  • Coordinate with the respective municipality to ensure Crossing Guards are assigned effectively.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external organizations in support of safety and security initiatives and programs.
  • Lead the District Safety Committee and coordinate the District level Emergency Response Team.
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize data to inform decisions and recommendations. Prepare and submit reports on data related to safety and security. Present reports to stakeholders, as needed.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures. Support the development of School Board policies and/or administrative regulations.
  • Manage the budget assigned for safety and security Support grant requests for additional funding of related District initiatives and programs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of best practices, laws and regulations related to area of responsibility.
  • Performs other related duties as

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the field of safety and security as evidenced from an Associate’s degree or equivalent advanced credential in criminal justice, public safety management, emergency planning and response, or related
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership position within law enforcement, military, security, public safety or a position of similar responsibilities to this role.
  • Proficiency in data entry, word processing systems, spreadsheets, and other technology routinely used in field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare sound recommendations based upon information.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects.

REPORTS TO: Office of Student Services

SUPERVISES: No direct reports

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full year. Salary to be established by the Board.


EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated in accordance with the Compensation and Performance Evaluation Plan for School and District Leaders.
