Position Focus:

The Coordinator of Fitness, Wellness, & Instructional Programs will provide professional oversight, support, and expertise in the management of fitness, wellness, and instructional programs including but not limited to group fitness classes, wellness, mind/body, personal training, swim lessons, lifetime sports, etc.

Develop and implement comprehensive and animated fitness, wellness, and instructional programs to meet the diverse needs of the Yale community and PWG membership. Assist in the operation of the Israel Fitness Center. Hire, direct, train, schedule, supervise, and audit approximately 20+ student and casual employees serving as fitness, wellness, & program instructors and personal trainers. Coordinate the reservations and use of Yale Athletics and Recreation within the PWG for assigned programs. Coordinate the use of private facilities if needed. Manage budgets for programming, staffing, and equipment. Provide recommendations to Associate Director for capital equipment repairs and replacement. Develops and manages department employee training and development program. Compile and analyze statistics, program, and participant data and makes recommendations based on the corresponding data. Serve as a group fitness instructor for 2-3 classes per week. Provide coverage in the absence of other fitness instructors. Serve as a personal trainer to clients as needed. Serve as a fitness/wellness expert and liaison for University sub-committees. Supervise evening and weekend programs and special events as needed. Assemble, track, and review employee paperwork, payroll, and timecards on a weekly basis. Maintain program websites.

Essential Duties

1. Assumes primary responsibility for a program, service, activity, operation or function in an assigned area. Develops objectives, practice and procedure and identifies resources to ensure accomplishment of operational goals. 2. Coordinates day-to-day operations in order to achieve designated goals. Ensures effective management and leads the development and implementation of best practices. 3. Designs and implements quality control metrics to identify areas of risk. Analyzes, recommends, and implements strategic solutions to minimize risk. 4. Develops a variety of complex report and other written materials. 5. Provides guidance to and collaboration with internal and external partners as necessary. 6. Develops, oversees and monitors budgets. 7. Develops and maintains specialized training. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree in related field and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Knowledge of the campus recreation, fitness, wellness industry trends and standard practices.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability to create and adapt animated programming to a diverse community.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to instruct group fitness and personal training programs.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Must have the ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Graduate degree in related field.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

Certifications for instructional programming preferred i.e. CPR/AED/First Aid, Water Safety, Health Coach, Nutrition, Fitness/Wellness specialties (i.e. Yoga, Pilates, TRX, Zumba, etc.), etc.
