Job description

The Controller leads a team of kick butt accounting professionals to deliver financial data and insights to our clients so they are in a position to make the best decisions for their business. The ideal candidate finds satisfaction in reviewing and preparing financial statements and reports and then confidently communicating the results with up to 30 clients each month. This person truly enjoys developing and managing a team, and is comfortable doing so in a remote and distributed environment. You will make it your mission to support your team to deliver the contracted scope of services for each client in the agreed upon timeline. And you will understand the benefit of leveraging technology to efficiently serve clients as well as collaborate with your team.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

• Participate in monthly close activities including reviewing checklists, completing journal entries, preparing schedules and reports, and generally ensuring a complete, accurate and timely close across the client portfolio
• Confidently and clearly communicate financial reporting package to clients in an easy-to-understand way, and enjoy doing so
• Complete the final review of weekly and monthly processes that might include billing, AP/AR, payroll, reconciliations, schedule creation, P&L, balance sheet, among others
• Lead internal daily huddle as a way to answer questions and provide training opportunities to team members
• Implement consistent accounting practices and procedures across entire client portfolio
• Regularly switch hats between leading and teaching team to responding to client questions and escalations in a timely manner
• Collaborate with external stakeholders or service providers on behalf of our clients

Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience working in a remote environment and managing a distributed team
• Experience working with multiple clients (>20-30), across a variety of industries to deliver bookkeeping or accounting services
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• 10+ years experience in accounting/finance, with specific expertise in accrual accounting
• Proficiency working in QuickBooks Online
• Strong ability to work remotely, collaborate virtually, manage time and workload, stay organized, and adapt to changing environments
• Thrives in fast-paced environments
• Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal skills
• Reside in either MST or CST time zone

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with companies from startup to $20M in annual revenue
• Experience with financial reporting requirements in private companies
• Strong preference for candidates with experience in ecommerce or manufacturing
• CPA preferred
