Pioneering social service, social change, social justice agency seeks experienced Controller to lead finance department. The Controller is responsible for the accounting, internal control, budgeting, auditing, cash flow reporting, disbursements, receipts, payroll, payroll service, taxes, financial information and financial grants administration of the agency. This dynamic position is responsible for keeping abreast of recent developments in financial and tax requirements of administrating a non-profit organization and maintaining vital records. The Controller will interface with the board of directors' finance committee and meet regularly with the treasurer of the board; attend monthly board meetings and other financial and audit meetings as required. The Controller will delegate to and supervise POV's 4-person fiscal staff to ensure all financial tasks are completed in a timely and effective manner and oversee development and implementation of financial systems. The Controller will regularly audit POV sub-contractors to monitor fiscal compliance. This is an exempt position and a direct report to the CEO. Financial Management and Supervision Oversee/modify accounting system (Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise Version), policies, procedures, internal controls, agency and project cash forecasts Supervise, train, and mentor fiscal staff to maintain an effective team Supervise payroll system input and reconciliation (Paychex Flex, On-line) Prepare internal and external financial reports that meet board of directors, government, and funding requirements Update, maintain, make recommendations for updates to POV Finance and Accounting Handbook Ensure application of appropriate procurement procedures with vendors, as indicated in POV policy General Accounting Operations Perform full range of accounting activities, review source documents, analyze/record accounting entries, maintain input documents and files for payroll and accounting operations Collects and analyzes financial data to provide management with internal reports Monitor and execute payables and receivables, cash status, bank reconciliations Performs monthly and annual close of all general ledger accounts and ensures that reconciliation procedures are performed on all balance sheet accounts Review expenditure requests for completeness and accuracy, process and record disbursements, prepare invoices for reimbursement from contracting agencies Prepare monthly financial statements Meet with Board and finance committee to present financials Grant Compliance: Prepare/modify annual agency, government contract and foundation budgets Prepare/modify cost allocation plans Maintain liaison with grant management personnel Insure compliance with contract and sub-contract regulations Prepare and submit grants’ invoices and reports Maintain fiscal files for all grants and projects Coordinate annual independent Agency A-133 audits Work closely with independent auditor to supply reports, schedules, etc. for annual audit Work closely with senior management staff to prepare for all agency audits and monitoring visits Carry out monitoring visits with subcontracting agencies Oversee all tax preparation, independent contractors’ reporting, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance ,disability, sales tax, benefits allocations, etc. Minimum of 5 years experience in non-profit, managerial accounting Computer fluency in Word programming, Excel, Spreadsheets, Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise Version, various web form platforms Familiarity with on line payroll systems (Paychex Flex) Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and professionalism Ability to work with others as part of a fiscal team Effective negotiation and mediation skills Ability to work on site at POV Metro DTLA office Adaptability, flexibility and ability to reorder priorities or work plan based upon changes in operational or organizational needs BA or BS degree in accounting, finance or business Have own car and valid CA driver's license Applicants may submit a resume and cover letter to Cathy Friedman P – 213-955-9090 Celebrating our 50th year, Peace Over Violence is a multi-cultural, multi-generational, multi-ability agency and an equal employment opportunity employer.
