The Role in Brief:

Content Strategist/Writer

We are looking for an experienced strategic thinker to join our Agency Services team as a Content Strategist and Writer. This role is responsible for creating online content that engages audiences and brings education brands to life in a way that drives results. Working closely with Partners, Brand Strategists, UX Designers, SEO Specialists and other Creatives, this position is equal parts investigator, planner, and verbal communicator. We are looking for someone who not only knows when and where to say something, but also how to say it.

This role is based in Richmond, VA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze partner supplied materials and websites to identify opportunities to improve communication.
  • Interview internal and external subject matter experts to establish a factual basis for strategic recommendations and written communication.
  • Produce page-by-page creative briefs that document content strategy for partner approval prior to writing.
  • Work closely with an SEO/SEM strategist, develop content strategies and deployment calendars for website content, blogs, social media, etc. for ongoing partner success.
  • Execute recommended creative strategies through the development of written content with emphasis on branded, long-form, SEO-optimized website copy.
  • Develop web content with awareness and understanding of each partner’s CMS capabilities and constraints.
  • Use visual design tools to communicate content hierarchy and placement of on page elements in addition to traditional copy decks.
  • Ensure that all deliverables have solid, strategic rationale and are presented in an inspiring way that shows high value and facilitates understanding.
  • Build rapport with partners and vendors during online and onsite partner presentations.
  • Continually evaluate creative products and processes and work with the Senior Content Strategist/Writer to identify opportunities for improvement.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of writing for the web
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Ability to adapt easily
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Experience developing strategies for and writing long form web copy that builds affinity and achieves specific business goals
  • Command of creative processes and ability to provide clear direction to both creative and production partners
  • Ability to have your work critiqued and critique the work of others in a productive way
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with simultaneous deadlines
  • Ability to coordinate and lead discussions/meetings across partner and internal teams
  • Experience working on a team and collaborating to solve problems
  • Experience presenting to a variety of stakeholders, including the ability to build aesthetically pleasing presentation decks
  • Must have excellent attention to detail related to grammar and spelling
  • Degree in English, Mass Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Must have a portfolio of relevant work

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Experience writing scripts and conducting interviews for testimonial style videos
  • Experience developing workflows for marketing automation campaigns
  • Experience writing for the education industry
