  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating/cost control field.
  • 12+ years knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, in industrial and/or corporate building systems.
  • 12+ years knowledge and understanding of Construction Documents and Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) scope structure.
  • 10+ years experience with Windows Power User, Microsoft Office Suite, and estimating software such as CostX, Timberline, Sage, or similar.

The Pre-Construction Cost Estimator will be a key part of the Transportation Engineering Services (TES) team and will be responsible for estimating new building construction. This includes the extension of existing facilities and new sites. The Estimator will play an integral role in the development and implementation of the North American facility network infrastructure. This role will analyze and evaluate different facility scenarios and build-out designs. In addition, this candidate has to support the standardization of the technical and facility related processes and systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilizing tools and templates for various levels of estimates and project types including risk assessment.

  • Utilizing and managing repository for historical data including cost performance metrics in comparison to estimate.

  • Analyzing and providing timely feedback of vendor proposals using benchmark data.
·
  • Validating large or complex changes with regards to cost impacts.
·
  • Managing revision control of scope and estimate for new designs and innovations.
·
  • Looking beyond the information that has been given, asking the right questions and working to provide a complete project cost evaluation.

  • Collaborate with and advocate for our customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
·
  • Provide innovative solutions to complex issues as they arise related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and/or specified products or materials.

  • Make reliable predictions as it relates to cost and be comfortable estimating across all scopes of work.

  • Assemble a complete presentation-worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project scope and cost.
·
  • Must be prepared to participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost / budget information to the customer/owner.

  • Identify Value Engineering opportunities in the design and quantify expected savings.
·
  • Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.

  • Travel throughout North America approximately 5% of the time
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and justifying budgets.
  • Ability to create and maintain processes for project documentation.
  • Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and be able to maintain high quality standards.
  • Ability to interpret contract terms, conditions and exhibits as applicable to project requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience building or expanding estimating or cost control programs.
