The concession attendant must be polite, self-motivated and well groomed; enjoy working with the public; available for flexible schedules that include nights and weekends (including holidays). The concession attendant is responsible for selling soft drinks, packaged candies, popcorn, hot dogs and other food items to theatre patrons; must be capable of adding, subtracting and counting change. Because of the variety of storage display needs of these diverse products, employees must be highly mobile as they move from one end of the counter to the other to fill orders.
The concession attendant must be able to move quickly as the bulk of concession sales occur in the fifteen minutes before the start of a movie and customers demand fast service so they can be seated by the time the picture begins.
In many theatres, employees will be cross-trained to assist in other positions, as staffing requires.
The concession attendant participates in food preparation and must be able to operate all equipment, which includes pouring oils, moving kettles, adjusting lamps, etc.…
In addition to selling concession items, the attendant must maintain the counter area. This includes stocking supplies, operating and cleaning all cooking and popping equipment, cleaning counters, display glass and windows. The attendant must be able to empty bins, lift and clean popcorn kettles, warmers, butter machines, hot dog, soft drink equipment and any other equipment associated with a concession area. The concession attendant must be able to move bulk food products from remote or separate storage areas. Sometimes this must be done quickly in order t keep shelves stocked for intermissions
The job requires the ability to reach at different levels, choose several items, give the order to the patron, accept payment and make change. The attendant must be able to speak clearly, be able to hear or lip read adequately and have the manual dexterity to handle a variety of food products without spilling the contents, while accepting payment and/or making change.
Additional job requirements:
Employee must be able to read, write and receive instructions and communicate in English; must be able to stand up to at least 4 hours at a time; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; and must be able to use a ladder or other means to clean and/or change signs.
