The Consumer Lending team partners with other businesses across Wells Fargo to create and deliver transformational experiences that help customers gain access to credit. The vision for the Consumer Lending business is to leverage technology and data to make it simple for customers to easily access credit when and where they need it. Consumer Lending serves customers across the country through our distribution network of more than 5,300 retail banking branches and Home Lending offices, as well as online and digital channels.

As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.

This is a team leader role that is also a consumer lending partner-facing (front line and BACO) quality assurance role for our compliance risk assessment data, with additional responsibilities for some weekly reporting.

The specific responsibilities of this leader role include:

  • Develop and deliver learning events for regulatory Compliance and Business Risk and Controls employees to inform of organizational process and updates.
  • Ensure SHRP Major Compliance Requirements and associated controls are accurate and updated based on current data quality standards.
  • Lead a team of skilled Compliance Senior Associates operating as a shared services team supporting Consumer Lending
  • Function as a key member of a high-performing, respected, collaborative team
  • Create process and procedure documents to support team operations
  • Motivate and inspire team member by creating an environment that promotes positive communication, encourages team building, and demonstrates flexibility
  • Provide guidance, instruction and direction to the team to achieve goals within established service levels
  • Serve as escalation point for business partners and Management to resolve issues timely and thoroughly
  • Ensure strong risk management practices are created and maintained
  • Provide consulting and training to internal partners as needed

Responsibilities of the team include:

  • Establish and maintain trusting and effective relationships with Business Aligned Compliance Officers and Business Unit Control Team partners to ensure the proper execution of compliance risk programs. Serve as point of contact and facilitate interactions with other partners.
  • Define and maintain risk programs communicating relevant requirements and processes to front-line and Compliance business partners. Support day-to-day program execution.
  • Advise the front line on risk-taking and mitigation; perform independent review and challenge of the front line’s adherence to policies and standards.
  • Support smooth functioning of day-to-day operations such as records management, calendar and meeting management, email, and SharePoint administration. Build and maintain project plans, identify dependencies, track against goals, and capture key project updates and outcomes for strategic deliverables.

Required Qualifications


  • 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management
