Community Health and Communications Specialist- Equal Hope

Equal Hope is a not-for-profit organization formed in response to the large racial disparity in breast cancer mortality in Chicago. Equal Hope is working to eliminate disparities in breast cancer outcomes and improve breast health for all Chicago area women through a multi-faceted approach that involves initiatives in policy, advocacy, outreach, education, navigation and quality improvement in medical care.

Position Highlights:
The Community Health and Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with the Program Team (Advocacy, Communications, Outreach, Director of Program Operations and Executive Director), to engage women for improved women's health outcomes.
S/he will work with the Program Team to think strategically about how Equal Hope can interact with the public and with women in high breast and other diseases mortality areas to encourage access to and utilization of healthcare services in a manner that leads to completion of preventive healthcare services and diagnostic follow up when needed. Such strategic thinking will include analysis of communications and outreach strategies and also review of the processes of operations at Equal Hope for outreach and navigation.
S/he will be responsible for the day-to-day duties associated with social media and health education management including content creation and utilization of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), CANVA, Adobe Reader, e-mail, electronic calendar, social media (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) and internet research.
S/he will be responsible for developing or updating of the health promotion materials. This will include researching current guidelines for health issues being worked on by Equal Hope and assembling the information into easy to understand one-pagers or brochures. Familiarity with health literacy and providing health information in an easy to understand fashion is critical to the success of this activity.
S/he will maintain a caseload as necessary of clients for navigation. S/he will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of navigating clients to preventative health screenings, diagnostic exams and treatment, if needed, through the Equal Hope Navigation Initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:
Health Education and Navigation (50% of Time)
Assist in reviewing, improving or developing health promotion curricula and materials and training staff on how to deliver these messages to the community and through navigation.
Create and maintain health education calendar promoting health initiatives and education opportunities for the Equal Hope community.
Coordinate screening appointments and follow up with health provider partners.
Track all navigation activities in the program database and provide monthly reports
Track all navigation activities through the Equal Hope's navigation database tool
Assist with data base quality assurance
Maintain a caseload of navigation clients
Work with community partners to develop referrals to Equal Hope for services
Present Equal Hope's work as a speaker at a variety of events and seek out opportunities to present such work.
Assist with planning and implementing Equal Hope's annual fall event

Social Media, Communications, and Content Creator (40%)
Market Equal Hope community programs and help drive program participation to this and other Equal Hope events
Design and define Equal Hope's voice and vibe in social channels.
Develop a social media content strategy and calendar.
Coordinate and schedule relevant, original, high-quality social posts and social media advertising campaigns for all platforms in collaboration with our social media consultant.
Monitor activity of social media ads, contests, and posts. Gather insights, analytics and data reports.
Advocate for Equal Hope in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate. Engage customers and followers on all social media accounts.
Be Equal Hope's thought leader in the Social Marketing space by attending conferences and workshops to stay ahead of emerging social strategies and platforms.
Create and maintain a regular schedule for all email marketing initiatives.
Cultivate and integrate new ideas and campaigns that align with current and future Equal Hope communication goals.
Review the success of campaigns and develop ways to improve.
Create engaging written and visual content.
Collaborate with Director of Program Operations and Executive Director on project concepts; present designs to stakeholders and applicable teams; and implement feedback and changes when appropriate.
Manage digital and print avenues of production, including the Equal Hope website, email campaigns, Equal Hope marketing materials, and all stocked print items.
Determine voice and display of messaging for graphic design pieces.
Advise on best practices and optimizations throughout design projects.
Create visualizations (via a software program CANVA) which convey accurate messaging and undertones as dictated by the project.
Perform a quality check for errors on all designs and final printed products.

Other Duties including Administrative (10%)
Support the team in project management duties such as planning and implementing new program activities and staffing new projects;
Actively participate in meetings, including all project-related meetings and other organization wide efforts;
Writes grant reports and communicates with funders as necessary
Assist in IRB applications for community health projects.
Other Equal Hope project activities as needed.

Position Qualifications Include:

Required Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
Fluent Spanish and English speaker with knowledge of medical terms in both languages.
Strong interest in health disparities and in working in underserved communities
Experience with developing health education programs is preferred.
Visual Software experience is required
Experience with social media or digital marketing
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a willingness to work as part of a team, yet independently on one's own responsibilities
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
The ability to maintain effective collaborative relationships with community organizations;
Skills to communicate effectively via written, oral and visual media;
Excellent organizational and computer skills;
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize and follow-through with responsibilities;
Sensitivity to the needs and cultures of diverse communities;
A working knowledge of data management and data collection;
A working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint);
Familiarity with IRB/HIPAA requirements;

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Master's in Public Health higher preferred in a health education or health behavior/promotion or in a directly related field, and three years of experience
Knowledge of breast and cervical health
Familiarity with CANVA or InDesign
Ability to engage in public policy research
Familiarity with public relations/marketing a plus
Knowledge of a variety statistical software programs (Arc-GIS, Tableau, SAS, STATA, SPSS) is a plus
