Summary Description

EarthRights International is seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Communications Associate to join our growing U.S. Communications team. Under the supervision of our Communications Director, and working closely with colleagues on the communications team and across the organization, the Communications Associate will support nearly every aspect of our media relations, branding, social media, and development-communications work. This position is also expected to nimbly and efficiently juggle multiple priorities and respond to rapidly-shifting team and organizational priorities as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Write and edit regular communications to supporters such as emails, that promote key victories and milestones while demonstrating the value of our work.
  • Partner with our development team to support individual giving efforts, including implementing a strategy and creating materials for Giving Tuesday and other fundraising appeals throughout the year.
  • Work with Digital Organizer and Communications Director to help maintain EarthRights’ website and perform updates as needed.
  • Support our media relations efforts by helping to create and maintain media lists; write and disseminate press releases and media statements; write and place letters to the editors and op-eds; monitor media coverage, and help forge relationships with members of the media.
  • Work with staff in DC, Asia, and Peru to help maintain our editorial calendar.
  • Write regular blogs to highlight our advocacy goals, organizational achievements and milestones, and other priorities.
  • Collaborate with our digital strategist to maintain and grow our social media presence.
  • Support the writing and editing of institutional marketing materials such as brochures and annual reports.
  • Copy edit publications such as fact sheets, action alerts, fundraising appeals, white papers, and other publications.
  • Support the administration of the organization’s G Suite and Workplace platforms.
  • Support the planning of special events such as webinars, film screenings, and more.
  • Support the Communications Director and our Human Resources team with our internal communications needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3-5 years of strategic communications experience; familiarity with both earned and digital communications channels required, preferably in an NGO setting.
  • Exemplary oral and written English communications skills.
  • Excellent English-language editing skills and familiarity with AP style.
  • Demonstrated interest in climate justice and human rights issues.
  • A track record of garnering earned media coverage.
  • Experience managing institutional social media accounts.
  • Experience working with media databases and CRMs.
  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is appreciated but not required.
  • Experience planning and setting up special events, particularly webinars and other Zoom-based conferences.
