Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, possible after-school and weekend hours

SUMMARY:
  • This person will assist a student with his communication needs.
  • This person will monitor various home programs in order to support physical education and occupational therapy needs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee one student in his home during virtual lessons and home-therapy programs

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Paraprofessional Certification at a minimum
  • Experience with students with autism or other special needs, preferred
  • Experience with AAC devices, preferred
  • Will need to be trained in crisis and de-escalation techniques.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certification registered with Lake County ROE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Be present in the student’s home during virtual lessons
  • Assist communication by supporting the student’s arm so he can use his communication device
  • Under the supervision of the Adaptive Physical Education teacher and the Occupational Therapist, this person will support the student’s practice of a variety of skills.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • The ability to work independently and manage time and with minimal supervision
  • The ability to work with others in a positive manner
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Possess common sense, problem-solving skills and reasoning ability to appropriately deal with the responsibilities of this position
  • The ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student, and other sensitive District information
  • The ability to learn and utilize new technologies effectively
