Job Summary:

Perform skilled mechanical service/maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment and controls; perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of HVAC-R equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems, equipment and controls
  • Identifying maintenance risks and improvements on equipment
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC-R systems
  • Cleaning, adjusting and repairing systems, and performing warranty checks
  • Performing emergency repairs promptly and efficiently for both customer and company owned systems
  • Providing technical direction and on-the-job- training to customers and other techs
  • Keeping daily logs and records of all the maintenance functions
  • Ensuring compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA)
  • Complying with service standards, work instructions and customers’ requirements
  • Assisting with customers’ queries
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or suitable equivalent required
  • 5 years’ experience as an HVAC technician, and willingness to continue educations in the HVAC field is required
  • Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating required
  • HVAC/R certification highly recommended
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Working knowledge of boiler systems required
  • Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols required
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills required
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans required
  • Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice required
  • Ability to work in confined spaces required

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Working Conditions / Physical Demands:

Requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The need to lift trash cans, building materials, and other equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to climb ladders, assist with moving of appliances and use power tools and equipment. Performing the duties of this position does present mechanical and electrical hazards.
