About this position This position is remote working from home. You must live in Wisconsin or Minnesota. You must be able to attend training and meetings in Robbinsdale, MN.
Accurate assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes for DRG assignment, revenue and research purposes on inpatient encounters. Abstracting of occurrences to Quality Assurance, Infection Prevention, Utilization Management, Risk Management and Pharmacy. The Inpatient coders provide shared services for North Memorial and Maple Grove Hospital
What we’ll expect from you - Assignment of codes using ICD-10CM diagnostic and procedural coding system to inpatient encounters.
- Keeps current with coding guidelines and regulations affecting the inpatient coding and reimbursement.
- Abstracts using facility guidelines, policies and regulatory standards.
- Queries physicians for clarification of documentation to support coding and DRG assignment when necessary.
- Works closely with the Clinical Documentation Improvement team to improve physician documentation for assignment of correct DRG's for inpatient claims.
- Attends meetings as required

- Graduate of a Coding Certificate or Health Information Technician program
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities - Advance knowledge of ICD-10CM and DRG coding preferred.
- Maintenance of continuing education hours through AHIMA required.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical healthcare role (i.e. HUC, Nursing)
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Data entry skills preferred.
- Ability to successfully complete inpatient coding test required.
Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory American Health Information Management Association credential required, or must obtain certification within six months of hire date or 120 hrs of training, in one of the following: 1) Registered Health Information Technician or 2) Registered Health Information Administrator or 3) Certified Coding Specialist - NMHC Standard
