The primary locations of work for this position will be Arlington and Gaylord, but occasional travel may be required to Henderson, Le Sueur, Winthrop when needed to meet business needs.
Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for performing a variety of patient care related activities to assist providers and nursing personnel. Facilitates scheduling and registration of patients and communication with patients, physicians and providers for ongoing care.
Job Functions
When performing nursing support and front desk functions:
- Scheduling and registration of patients' appointments
- Assists in arranging referrals/prior authorizations as necessary
- Assists in maintaining stocked supplies and sterilizes instruments and exam rooms
- Escorts patients to examination room and obtains vitals and documents in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with clinic policies and scope of certification/licensure
- Prepares equipment and assists providers during examination, testing and treatment of patients
- Performs room turn-over in patient rooms between cases and at the end of the day
- Performs other duties as assigned
When performing Lab, Admissions and/or X-ray functions
- Maintains stocked supplies and inventory
- Performs testing procedures as required
- Prepares procedure room/area and instructs patients
- Troubleshoots and maintains equipment
- Completes daily QA/QC procedures and provides maintenance/adjustments to equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Completes patient registration, patient scheduling, and other patient flow functions.
- Promptly answers a multi-line switchboard in a courteous manner and accurately transfers calls to the appropriate department or extension.
- Assists in the daily processing of taking payments and accurately totaling daily charge logs.
- Transmits and distributes faxes.
- Manages consults to outside providers and calls patients with follow up appointments.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education/Work Experience/License/Certifications
- Graduation from Medical Assisting program or School of Practical Nursing
- Graduate of clinical laboratory program and/or ability to display and complete job competencies
- Current LPN Licensure or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)(LPNs/MAs will have 1 year to become certified in order to maintain employment)
- Current CPR certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities when performing X-ray functions
- Knowledge of x-ray safety for patients and personnel
- Knowledge of proper patient positioning and state radiology regulations
- Skill in performing quality control and maintaining records
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and technique problems
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities when performing Lab functions
- Ability to troubleshoot problems with lab testing, equipment, patient samples, and kits
- Skill in performing quality control and maintaining records

Preferred Qualifications
- EMR experience
- X-Ray Operator License (grandfathered prior to 2007) or completion of AART limited scope Operator examination per Minnesota Department of Health
- Previous lab experience
