Clinical Research Supervisor Details

Under the supervision of the UCSF Fresno Clinical Research Manager, the Clinical Research Supervisor
will be responsible for overseeing a team of Clinical Research Coordinator Assistants (CRCA) and Clinical Research Coordinators (CRC). The individual will assign CRCAs to support new and ongoing clinical trials as needed and will coordinate with the study lead Clinical Research Coordinators (CRC) and Principal Investigator (PI) to train and monitor CRCAs. The individual will work with all CRCs in the Clinical Research Center in support of all sponsored clinical trials at UCSF Fresno. The individual will meet regularly with the Clinical Research Center Director to discuss study activity, CRCA staff assignments and performance. The individual will be responsible for the assignment, training, monitoring and evaluation of all CRCAs in the Clinical Research Center.

The Clinical Research Supervisor will also provide guidance to CRCs regarding the conduct of clinical trials at UCSF Fresno, especially those performed in the inpatient setting , and may provide direct oversight , support or assistance to a clinical trial: reviewing and preparing protocols for study initiation; designing flow sheets, data forms and source documents; gathering and interpreting medical, surgical and laboratory data regarding clinical trial subjects; applying understanding of inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria for protocols; overseeing recruitment and enrollment of study subjects; conducting study visits per study protocols; communicating with PIs and study sponsors.

Department Description

UCSF Fresno is a major educational and clinical branch of UCSF that is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley and is administered by the Office of Associate Dean in Fresno. Programs and affiliations of the School of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry are administered by UCSF Fresno. The UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program (MEP), the largest component, offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate training programs with approximately 315 medical house staff, another 400 medical students and several thousand continuing medical and dental education attendees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or health-related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Certification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates or the Association of Clinical Research Professional
  • Five years of experience as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator
  • Experience supervising clinical research assistants
  • Experience working with health professionals in a hospital and/or clinic setting
  • Experience working with patients in a health care setting
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical research contracts and grants, clinical trials, protocols, Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, and complex visit structures
  • Knowledge of strategies for recruiting human subjects
  • Exceptional analytical skills to evaluate the importance and urgency of problems; excellent demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex and non-routine issues requiring innovative solutions
  • Ability to operate effectively in a changing organizational and technological environment
  • Ability to assess and respond to audit risk; ability to develop project plans/schedules and motivate team to meet deadlines
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Financial analysis skills; demonstrated skills in preparing and presenting financial and quantitative analyses, including financial projections and budgets
  • Experience using database software, such as MS Access, Excel or FileMaker Pro

License/Certification

  • Certification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates or the Association of Clinical Research Professional
