GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Clinical Research Coordinator will support the investigation of the intersection of race and ethnicity and substance use disorder across the perinatal continuum within the Division of General Academic Pediatrics at MGH. Starting in the Winter of 2021, the part-time (20-hours/week) CRC will support a qualitative project evaluating drivers of disparities in care for pregnant and parenting people of color with substance use disorder and key stakeholders through individual interviews and focus groups. This project will prioritize the perspectives of Black, LatinX, and Indigenous communities.


The Clinical Research Coordinator will assist in planning for study implementation, supporting participant recruitment and data collection, and analyzing qualitative data.


There will be an option for this position to be expanded to a full time, 40hr/wk role with a minimum of a two-year time commitment starting in the summer of 2021 supporting additional projects with the MGH HOPE clinic, a multidisciplinary perinatal substance use disorder clinic care for families from pregnancy conception through early childhood.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in development of study protocols including consent forms, interview guides, recruitment strategies, and data collection plans with staff and study investigators.
  • Assists with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, continuing reviews, and amendments.
  • Supports participant recruitment and data collection, such as verifying eligibility inclusion/exclusion criteria, supporting interview or focus group procedures, and administering demographic surveys and questionnaires.
  • Obtains patient study data and maintains records and databases.
  • Prepares data for analysis and data entry and assists with formal audits of data.
  • Supports qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Assists in literature review and manuscript preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • A Clinical Research Coordinator II performs the duties of a Clinical Research Coordinator I (above) and may also:


  • Contribute to protocol recommendations.
  • Organize, interpret, and monitor data.
  • Act as a study resource for patients and families.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Careful attention to details

  • Working knowledge of clinical research protocols
  • Ability to demonstrate respect and professionalism for subjects’ rights and individual needs
  • Basic understanding of disease model of substance use disorder, medications for opioid use disorder, working with underserved populations
  • Proficiency in various software packages, including Microsoft Office, NVivo, RedCap, and other desktop tools

  • The Clinical Research Coordinator II should also possess:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems
  • Ability to interpret acceptability of data results
  • Working knowledge of data management program

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • New graduates or current graduate students with some relevant course/project work or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Clinical Research Coordinator I position outlined above.


    Those with a minimum of 1-2 years of directly related work experience will be considered for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position.

    Spanish-language proficiency preferred.


    Experience with working with people with substance use disorder or the recovery community preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):
  • A Clinical Research Coordinator I does not have any supervisory responsibility.
  • A Clinical Research Coordinator II may assist with the training and orientation of new staff members.
