JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision provides patient care, role modeling, counseling, supervision, and budget management of Advanced Practitioners throughout the adult inpatient areas at GBMC Hospital.

Education

Doctoral or Master’s degree from an approved School of Nursing or Physician Assistant Program.

Experience

Three (5) years of Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) experience and at least two (2) years of leadership or management experience.

Skills

• Advanced knowledge of advanced practice and general administration in order to oversee planning and implementation of patient care and ability to prepare necessary analyses, reports, policies and budgets.
• Analytical skills necessary to organize and oversee the work of others and to develop and administer sound policies, procedures, budgets and practices.
• Substantial interpersonal and verbal communication skills required in order to provide effective leadership to assigned staff, maintain effective contacts with patients, visitors, physicians and a variety of Medical Center personnel.
• Mentoring and development of staff, students and peers.
• Collaboration with Advanced Practitioner Director and Educator on Advanced Practitioner programs and development

Licensures, Certifications

• Licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner OR Licensed Physician Assistant by the Board of Medical Examiners of Maryland/Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses
• Certification as required
• Completion of "Healthcare Provider" CPR course
• ACLS/PALS/NRP certification (depending on area of specialty)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk almost constantly (up to 80% of worked time)

Working Conditions

• Normal health care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust and temperature
• Up to 50% of work time exposed to adverse working conditions due to performance of certain patient care activities
• Exposure to communicable disease
• May be required to staff if unit and patient acuity requires. Staffing to be discussed with AP Director
