Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Department Supervisor is a hands-on position responsible for the day to
day supervision, operation and oversight of the Hematology, Chemistry, and Urinalysis
departments and testing personnel.
Responsibilities:
Provides day-to-day supervision of testing personnel and is accessible to testing personnel to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the laboratory director and manager
Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained
Ensuring operational compliance with the laboratory’s Quality Management Systems Program
Training and proficiency in the laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures for clinical testing and knowledge in their quality control parameters
Provides hand on back-up support to the testing personnel in the performance of all operational clinical tests are required to meet service imperative.
Demonstrates knowledge of login, data entry, quality control, quality assurance and final reporting in the computer system
Optimizes workflow
Troubleshooting reagent/quality control issues, vendor backorders and technical issues
Coordinating activities and preparing for regulatory inspections
Training, supervising and assessing the competency of testing personnel
Completes annual competency evaluations and annual performance reviews
Delegates and evaluates proficiency testing samples assuring that they are tested in the same manner as patient specimens and that they are being performed accurately
Supports Medical Director and Laboratory Director in special projects
Attends required meetings and participates in team activities and professional development activities.
Encourages open communication and active staff participation within the department through the use of regular laboratory meetings, huddles, and/or brainstorming sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have a B.A., B.S., M.A. or M.S. in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry or related science as required by CLIA
ASCP certification (or equivalent) in related field, required
Current Florida Supervisor License in related field, preferred
5+ years of laboratory supervisory/management experience with proven leadership, communication, team building and organizational skills
