PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist the teacher in monitoring and implementing an appropriate and stimulating learning environment for all students in the Davidson School programs. To be a collaborative and contributing member of the education team in order to carry out each child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists teachers and/or clinicians in the implementation of students' IEP goals
- Assists in planning and preparation of instructional activities as determined by teacher's lesson plans
- Observes and addresses behavioral and educational objectives of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitors students during outdoor activities as directed, becomes familiar with student IEP goals, and reports progress regarding student performance and behaviors to supervising teacher
- Escorts students to educational areas, lunch, to/from bus/activities, playgrounds, bathrooms, enrichment, and clinical areas
- Participates in all program projects and activities
- Actively participates in team meetings and other pertinent discussions of students served by Davidson School
- As a team member, works towards and maintains effective communication and productive working relationships with all Elwyn staff, parents, and community personnel
- Assists in maintaining a clean and safe educational environment for the students
- Assists in evacuating students during fire drills, emergencies, and unusual circumstances.
- Participates in workshops, in-service, and other professional development activities
- Complies with Elwyn and Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) expectations regarding paraprofessional job duties and professional development
- Assists in classroom activities and with groups, as needed and directed, in the presence of certified personnel
- Inputs and accesses information via technology as requested by teachers and clinicians
- Ensures the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and safe crisis management using agency-trained protocols
- Completes other duties as assigned

CONTACTS: Elwyn staff, parents/guardians, school district personnel and transportation personnel
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma
- 2 years' experience working with school-age students
- Ability to communicate clearly and in a timely manner with all team members and Elwyn staff
- Ability to use classroom educational materials and methods following IEP goals and strategies
- Organizational skills to perform duties and responsibilities efficiently and effectively
- Experience with classroom assistive technology desired
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred
- Must be able to perform CPR, and safe crisis management using agency-trained protocols
