Job Summary: This position will be responsible for managing a team of Senior Claims Specialists and Claims Specialists handling a wide variety of low to high exposure Product Liability, Life Science and Environmental claims. This position will oversee and supervise the resolution of the more complex moderate to high exposure claims. This position will report to the Director of Casualty Claims claims and be responsible for conveying the organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals. Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of up to 8 claims handlers
  • Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity
  • Review and approve correspondence and reports
  • Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of examiner’s authority
  • Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to director or senior management.
  • Participate in review and discussion of large loss activity with interested stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial, Executive Management)
  • Ensure that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices
  • Assess and evaluate individual examiner and team performance, provide feedback and develop training needs
  • Prepare and distribute reports
  • Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assess resource needs
  • Foster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial)
  • Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partners
  • Participate in special projects as requested
  • Travel to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required
  • Be responsible for training and development of team members
  • Handle an independent case-load of moderate to severe casualty claims.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • JD , advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus
Certification
  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
  • Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or
  • I-Lead or other Management Training
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior management experience a plus
  • Experience working with products liability claims required
  • Experience working with trucking and transportation claims a plus
Skill Sets
  • Very technically knowledgeable in product liability claims (primary and excess)
  • Well respected in marketplace and strong relationships with brokers and agents
  • Collaborative and seeks out opportunities to work with and learn from others in the unit
  • Creative thinker and able to come up with innovative solutions and ideas
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills – proficient with handling data and reporting tools for assessment of performance, process efficiencies, and supporting stakeholders’ information needs.
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong desire for continuous improvement
