CLAIMS ASSISTANT – JOB DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Provides administrative support and overall assistance to Claims Examiners to assure the timely payment of benefits and administration of claims in compliance with state law.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides administrative support and overall assistance to Claims Examiners
- (includes sending initial claim packets, drafting letters/benefit notices, filing/serving documents, preparing legal referrals and responding to IMR/IBR requests).
- Contacts insured or other involved persons to obtain necessary information to process claims.
- Handles incoming phone calls from employers, brokers, injured workers, attorneys, medical providers and vendors.
- Documents conversations or information to claim file.
- Retrieves and distributes incoming faxes.
- Stays current with diary tasks.
- Provides customer service such as giving information to insureds, injured workers or providing referrals to outside vendors as requested by examiner.
- Processes claims for indemnity payments.
- Processes non-medical payments (including legal and expense bills).
- Organizes and works with examiner using computer to enter, access, search and retrieve data (such as indexing bill payments, medical reports, etc.).
- Reviews and distributes incoming mail (includes printing and scanning documents for remote examiners).
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Excellent written, verbal and mathematic skills.
- Working knowledge of current PC software such as Word and Excel.
Desired:
- At least one year of transferrable work experience within an office environment.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and CA workers’ compensation law (not necessary)
- Ability to operate in a team environment with the expectation of enhancing and contributing to the offices’ overall effectiveness and success.
- Ability to maintain strict confidence regarding information contained in assigned work.
- Ability to professionally interact with all levels of branch personnel, as well as clients, vendors and all other office visitors.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
