SUMMARY:
The Relief Support is responsible for assisting City Seeds in a variety of roles (Porter, Banquet Prep Cook, Driver) on an as needed basis. S/He will also be responsible for overall cleanliness, sanitation, and compliance with state and local health regulations in the kitchen area(s) and the outside of the facility. The Relief Support will also assist with food production in the kitchen and food delivery to local business, client homes, hotels, corporate/local venues, and retail locations. A Valid MD Driver’s License is preferred (but not required) for driving our vans. A full list of job functions are included below. S/He will contribute to City Seeds’ success as a team player. The Relief Support shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. S/he will be responsible for exemplifying City Seeds Culture and the 7 Core Values.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
PORTER:
- Maintaining highest level possible of cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout City Seeds as often and as fast as possible
- Keeping all kitchen facility clean, sinks, stoves, walk-in refrigerators, freezers, dry storage, and walls, windows clean and sanitized
- Ensuring basic cleaning tasks are carried out as quickly as possible to avoid hindering operations
- Following cleaning schedule and closing list thoroughly
- Show initiative and ability to work without supervision.
- Attention to detail on areas of grease, grime, proper storage, stacking, chemical usage, and storage.
- Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by manager
- Washing cookware, utensils, cutlery, dinnerware, and silverware scraping, brushing spraying everything before placing in dishwasher as fast as possible to keep them in rotation and cleaning equipment and assist in the cleaning of the kitchen as needed
BANQUET PREP COOK:
- Arranging equipment and ingredient deliveries
- Package and label foods as needed.
- Follow any updated Health and Safety Guidelines.
- Maintain a teamwork orientation towards co-workers.
- Emphasize safety awareness and effectively with all kitchen equipment and staff.
- Show willingness to be trained in all areas of preparation.
- Sustain clear and effective communications.
- Read and employ math skills for following recipes.
- Uses our Standard Recipe Card for preparing all products. Do not rely on the memory of yourself or other employees.
- Understand and comply consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures.
- Portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications. Complete opening and closing checklists.
- Visually inspect, select, and use only the freshest ingredients in the preparation of all menu items.
- Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work station area including tables, shelves, walls grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment.
- Promptly report equipment and food quality problems to Manager on duty.
- Inform Manager on duty immediately of product shortages.
- Ensure proper receiving, storage, and rotation of food products so as to comply with health department regulations.
- Nutrition/ labeling & assemble and prepare food to fulfill contracts as needed
SERVICE DRIVER:
- Deliver food products to customers within the Baltimore area in a timely manner
- Load truck efficiently (to make deliveries with the least amount of rearranging) and with the safety of the equipment and personnel in mind.
- Secure customer signature whenever necessary and maintaining an accurate log, noting any irregularities, special circumstances, or delivery carts left on site.
- Obey traffic laws and drive courteously.
- Notify manager if behind schedule so customers can be contacted.
Personnel:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English & have exceptional communication skills
- Must be detailed orientated and work well under pressure
- Must be able to follow direction & be professional in appearance and demeanor
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays
- Communicate & maintain a teamwork orientation towards co-workers and guests with dignity and respect.
- Ability to work unsupervised in a fast paced, highly visible, and changing environment
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to stand on feet throughout the shift, with intermittent periods of walking
- Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push & pull up to 50+ lbs. with assistance
- Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, and squeezing & overhead reaching occasionally.
- Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
- Must be able to frequently handle kitchen supplies and equipment to maintain the facility
- While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat)
- Must be able to climb stairs occasionally, both indoors and outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
- Must be able to work in variable temperatures, as kitchen temperatures and Scullery may fluctuate.
Agency Cohesiveness
- Participate in agency activities and the organization’s continuing learning on issues of racial equity and equity in general.
- Other duties as assigned.
- To maintain continuity, 30 days’ notice must be given upon resignation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED equivalence. One to two years employment in a related position is required. Prior hospitality experience preferred.
- Ability to operate LCD projector, laptop computer, overhead projector, TVs and monitors, kitchen equipment.
- A Maryland Driver’s License is Preferred (but not required), along with a good driving record.
- 18 years of age or older
- Efficiently working with materials and/or resources being aware of and minimizing costs and expenses
- Certified ServSafe preferred but not required
- Service-minded and team-oriented & Strong attention to detail
- Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written.
- Ability to relate well to staff and board members of different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, and religions.
- Associate is held accountable for all duties of this job and other duties as assigned.
- Ability to proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage time and resources
Preferred Education/ Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 2+ years in Food Delivery, Food & Beverage experience in the hospitality industry
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
