We offer strategic advice, lend money, raise capital, help manage risk, extend liquidity, buy and sell securities and provide many other banking services in markets around the world.Within the CIB, the Corporate Leveraged Credit Risk group is responsible for managing a portfolio of non-investment-grade client exposure generated by lending, derivatives trading, cash management and other activities. The group leads the client credit relationship in partnership with CIB marketing teams from IB Coverage, Corporate Banking, Leveraged Finance, Securitized Products, Sales & Trading and Wholesale Payments. The CIB Corporate Leveraged Credit Risk group is organized by geography with teams aligned by industry. The North America group works with a base of leading Consumer & Retail, Diversified Industries, Energy, Healthcare, Natural Resources, and Technology, Media & Communications clients. Additionally, the North America group is located primarily in Plano and New York.
Analysts within the group will have responsibility for diligence, risk grading, and on-going monitoring and management of a diverse and complex portfolio of companies. New analysts develop the analytical skills needed to evaluate, assess, and document client creditworthiness as well as structure and negotiate new leveraged transactions.
Responsibilities
- Identify the key risk factors associated with clients, transactions, and industry sub-sectors across an assigned portfolio
- Develop and articulate a dynamic, forward-looking risk assessment of client companies, transactions, competitive threats, and industry and other factors
- Participate and/or lead in client due diligence meetings as necessary
- Attend client, bank, and other meetings to develop a better understanding of client companies, management teams, and industry sectors
- Build and maintain financial models to incorporate the impact of forward-looking risk assessment on key drivers
- Apply corporate finance and accounting expertise to prepare credit approval materials in connection with new debt facilities for leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, acquisitions, and general corporate purposes as well as reviews on existing client facilities, by:
- Conducting business and financial analysis including running financial models and peer comparisons
- Assessing the ability of cash flows to repay debt
- Describing concisely the structure and terms of products and analyzing related risk metrics
- Ensure all credit risk policies are followed, and present and recommend credits for approval at the appropriate level
- Process transaction and annual reviews in JPM's credit system by coordinating with middle office and business partners in a timely manner
- Provide a well-researched and thoughtful risk assessment of each assigned client on an ongoing basis by staying current on all aspects of assigned clients, including industry trends, portfolio performance, compliance with covenants, potential risks, and opportunities
- Ensure risk ratings are accurate and reflect a current forward-looking view of the client
- Provide early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations
- Analyze, prepare, and present for approval all required waivers, amendments, and extensions
- Prepare and present portfolio review material to senior management
- Work with bank examiners and internal credit reviewers to validate credit quality and integrity of the credit process
- Leading ad hoc team projects
Qualifications:
- Accounting and corporate finance coursework or direct experience in credit and/or underwriting is preferred
- Strong analytical and modeling skills; strong attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with interest in client interaction
- Highly motivated with a natural passion to learn and an inquisitive personality; capable of understanding, describing, and debating complex concepts
- Independently productive with strong sense of accountability and ownership of tasks; ability to perform well under pressure in a demanding environment managing multiple concurrent tasks
- BA/BS degree is required; Completion of a major commercial/investment bank credit training program is a plus
- Candidates should be highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
