Citarella, The Ultimate Gourmet Market, is seeking a Full-time Deli/ Cheese Counter Associates to join our team. As a member of the Cheese Department, the Cheese Counter Associate will be immersed in a learning department. You will acquire a vast knowledge of cheeses and their origins, which in turn will help you elevate the guest experience. You have an eye for detail, assisting in display items for the department and understanding the importance this department has within the store. This is a hands on role, multi-tasking when necessary (e.g. portioning cheese while answering customer questions). You take initiative, becoming an asset to your department as well as helping out other colleagues when the occasion arises.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Help department to maximize sales by providing exceptional guest service.
• Handles product rotation, facing, restocking, product displays.
• Clean and maintain department equipment (cutting boards, scales, cheese knives, etc.).
• Basic knife handling skills
• Cut, wrap, and clean various types of cheeses.
• Keep records of temperatures and record inventory of products to determine what needs to be ordered and replenished.
• Follow, maintain and perform safety and sanitation procedures at all times.
• Communicate effectively with peers and management.
• Always maintain professionalism and treat everyone with respect and courtesy.
• Must always be guest focus and forward facing.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year in experience in a grocery store or food related/retail environment.
• Elevated guest service
• General understanding of cheese and dairy products.
• Some knowledge of tastings and pairings is a plus
• Flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Perform physical requirements of job including standing during scheduled hours, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, lifting, push and pull items of usually 20-50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment.
• Basic knife handling skills, this may include the use of a deli slicer.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
