Cheese Bulk Packaging

Overview: The Bulk Packaging role performs a variety of duties to include: inspecting cheese quality, inspecting bulk packaging, packaging the cheese, ensuring packaging quality, rework, and performing general housekeeping duties. This is an entry level position and individuals must be willing and able to learn various operator rolls in the Waverly facility for career advancement.
Leprino Foods is a 24/7 operating facility and employee must be willing and able to work 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift. After training is complete, new hires will be assigned a regular schedule on the next available shift. Typically, new hires are assigned to 3rd shift.
This role is a full-time position, eligible for all employment benefits including, but not limited to: 40 hours vacation every 6 months which increases with tenure, 56 paid sick hours annually, health insurances, 401k and profit sharing. The starting hourly rate for this role is $20.13 and it is non-exempt.
Responsibilities:Principle Accountabilities- Package the cheese into the tote and seal the bags.
- Inspect final cheese product for product quality and report issues to team lead, supervisor, or manager as applicable.
- Maintain stock of boxes on the packaging line and inspect packaging materials for defects and report issues to the team lead, supervisors, or manager as applicable.
- Properly clean and sanitize all equipment following good manufacturing practices as required by company procedures, and maintain housekeeping in area.
- Observe proper safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Document all lot numbers and pallet numbers of bag, box, liners, and stretch wrap used on the tracking logs.
- Add slip sheets/inter-leaver sheets in-between layers of cheese in tote.
- Fold bags into boxes so none is exposed when the box is closed.
- Sealer operator, perform the duties per established SOP’s.
- Box maker, perform the duties per established SOP’s.
General Outline of Duties
- Take temperature readings from cheese.
- Enter testing results into MES.
- Take tote samples.
- Operate the sealer machine.
- Complete scale weight checks.
- Operate the labeler machine.
- Operate the stretch wrapper.
- Assemble bulk totes.
- Inspect cheese.
- Know what is recycled and what is not and where it goes.
- Operate the trash compactor.
- Relieve employees for break.
Qualifications:Qualifications & Experience- Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
- Must be able to work Sunday - Saturday, off-shifts, weekends, holidays, and required overtime to support a 24 hour/7 day operation.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 8.5 hours.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to complete work assignments with high degree of accuracy.
- Must be willling and able to learn other operator positions in the facility.
- Prior food industry experience is preferred.
Language & Technical Skills- Able to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office products.
- Familiarity or ability to learn SAP, or similar integrated manufacturing system.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to deal with and understand different cultures.
Physical Demands & Environment
- This position will be exposed to working in a wet/slippery environment with loud noise in varying degrees of temperature.
- Specific vision may be required for this position, including close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to read computer screens for extended time periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry moderate weights repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Ability to pass a physical abilities lift test, including lifting up to 30 lbs, and climbing stairs.
- Frequent walking and standing.
- Climbing up stairs/ladders, bending and reaching required.
