What You Will Be Responsible For:
- Ensures charge accuracy by reviewing patient charts and corresponding charges for appropriateness.
- Identifies charge and/or documentation problems through auditing the worklists, the workflow status (to be resolved, to be assessed, etc.) and either makes corrections of the identified issues or routes the charge and/or documentation issues to the appropriate department/staff for resolution by utilizing the assignment of Work Items in a timely manner.
- Enter charges for routes of administration (ROA) where applicable utilizing the correct performing location.
- Reviews the “To Be Verified” Work Items daily to appraise the adequacy of corrected actions and releases accounts as appropriate so bills can be dropped in a timely manner.
- Communicates with the Nurse Auditors for guidance in auditing processes.
- Extends training and recommendations to help determine the cause of identified issues with department managers.
- Modifies scope or approach of the audits or investigations as circumstances dictate as directed by the supervisor.
- Demonstrates use of good judgment by considering the implications of all alternatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned including:
- Assists management in their development of control procedures/processes/policies, etc., as requested and/or as needed.
- Review new audit information received from the corporate nurse auditor and relay the information to directors/managers, etc. that are affected.
- Keep immediate supervisor informed of identified trends and/or challenges experienced during audit processes.
- Work with Help Desk creating tickets as necessary.
- Assignments are completed and results documented in the time frame provided.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
- Computer skills in Word and Excel software programs and other computer applications as appropriate
- Strong Analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work at a detail level
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
- Working knowledge of patient care processes as they relate to patient billing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or GED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- 3 years of hospital clinical experience
- Patient chart/charge auditing or related experience

Job Summary:
Audits all Inpatient, Outpatient, Surgery, ED and Observation accounts to ensure that patients are appropriately billed for all chargeable items indicated in the medical/clinical record. Advises, educates and acts as clinical/charges liaison between clinical departments, business office and finance staff Providing recommendations to improve processes, revenue, cash flow, and strengthen controls. Follows up to verify that the appropriate corrections are made such that bills can be dropped in a timely manner
