Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assistant/Licensed Surgical AssistantJob Number: 944Dept: Surgical Services ArgyleShift: Varies 6:30a-3pStatus: PRN (as needed), hourlySalary Range: $34.30 to $51.45SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Licensed Surgical Assistant/Certified Surgical Technician/First Assistant in the surgical department is a care giver who assists in various types of surgical procedures. The CSTFA/LSA principle duties include: 1) Preparing the OR room, supplies, instruments, and equipment for assigned procedures.2) The CSTFA/LSA applies principles of sterile technique while performing in the intra-operative setting. 3) Maintains sterile field to promote safety and infection control 4) Ensures all cases are pulled for scheduled procedure 5) Opens sterile supplies for procedures and checks indicators for integrity of packaging 6) Adheres to Universal Protocol and actively participates in a “TIME-OUT” before each procedure 7) Adheres to OR procedures for counting, medication labeling and other surgical technician duties. 7) Follows AORN recommended practices and guidelines along with surgical services & hospital policies and procedure. Demonstrates knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served and the variety of procedures performed. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Licensed Surgical Assistant and Certified Surgical Technician are under the direct supervision of the circulating nurse during surgery and under the direction of the Surgery Team Lead/Charge Nurse. Administratively the LSA/CSTFA is under the Manager/Director of Surgery and CCO. REQUIREMENTS: 1) Certification as a Surgical First Assistant or Texas license to practice as License Surgical Assistant (LSA) 3) BLS 4) Call may be required Must have current licensure/certifications upon hireNew Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift 10-20 pounds daily, stand for long periods EMPLOYEE STATUS: Non-exempt hourly Customer Service Excellence:Customers defined as patients, families, visitors, co-workers, our community and business partners.
