Certified Retail Pharmacy Technician - Outpatient Pharmacy Details

This position will be located in the Outpatient Pharmacy Department at The Christ Hospital, 2139 Auburn Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Job Overview: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, Assistant Directors, Technician Supervisor, Pharmacists, and according to the standard procedures, a Technician I assist in the preparation and distribution of medications at The Christ Hospital Apothecary-Retail Pharmacy. As a representative of both The Christ Hospital Health Network and Department of Pharmacy Services, promotes a positive image in all dealings with all other hospital employees and hospital guests.
The Retail Pharmacy Technician may perform the following duties:
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepares medications according to prescription or physician order.

Includes the following activities:

  • Ring patients out at the register timely and accurately either in their rooms or at the pharmacy counter. Greet customers as they enter the pharmacy in a timely and pleasant manner.
  • Provide exceptional customer service utilizing SMILES to any customer over the phone, in person at the register, or in their hospital room.
  • Count medication: Accurately pull correct medications from the shelf and fill patients’ bottles and pass them to the pharmacist for verification.
  • Be able to input patient’s insurance cards in Willow and be able to trouble shoot basic insurance issues.
  • On a daily basis check in and put the day’s order (controlled and non-controlled) on the shelf and file invoices in a neat and organized manner.

Uses technology in the department. This includes the following:

  • Utilize Epic Willow to run prescriptions and bill insurances
  • Patient information lookup in Epic Hyperspace
  • Use Emporos (pharmacy registers) to correctly sell patient’s medicines

Meds To Beds Delivery: Be able to go get a prescription for a patient when contacted that a patient would like Meds to Beds. After filling the medicine be able to take the patient’s prescription to them and utilize our mobile payment.

Assists the Pharmacist in daily activities.

Answers telephone, receiving and relaying messages as needed.

Re-orders drugs and supplies when stock is low or predetermined stock level indicated. Rotates stock, checks expiration dates and cleans assigned area.

Maintains a safe environment according to policy and procedure.

Maintains the department in a neat, clean and orderly manner.

Follows departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures.

Maintains equipment according to procedure.

Prepares continuous quality improvement records as requested.

As a representative of both The Christ Hospital Health Network and Department of Pharmacy Services, promotes a positive image in all dealings with all other hospital employees and hospital guests.

Performs other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Pharmacy, Assistant Director, Operations Coordinator, Technician Supervisor and Pharmacists.

Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances.

Education: High School Diploma.
License & Certification: The person has passed an examination approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, PTCB/ CPhT.
Person must register as Technician in Training with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, if not currently registered with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Upon completion of training period the person must complete registration as Certified Technician with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. The person must keep active certification with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
Experience: Six months Retail Pharmacy Technician experience or education, or other suitable experience preferred.
