Primary responsibility will be to assist with Mohs surgery (skin cancer surgery) / procedural dermatology including cosmetics
Position will work four 10-hour days per week between clinics in Lombard and Naperville
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Certified Medical Assistant-Surg Procedures assists physicians with surgical procedures. This position reports to the Practice Manager and/or Site Supervisor. Assisting with procedures may include preparing the procedure room by setting up surgical instruments and necessary supplies for specific procedures. Post procedure, this position is responsible for safe and proper specimen preparation and handling for laboratory testing. The Certified Medical Assistant is also responsible for patient documentation and various other office duties.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Physician with surgical procedures and maintaining quality standards
- Prepare exam/procedure room and tray with required instruments and or chemicals
- Assist the physician with instrument handling during the procedure Maintain all documentation related to the procedure and specimen, including routing documentation to laboratory
- Maintain procedure equipment and supplies including ordering supplies, and sterilizing equipment, storing appropriately, and ensuring completion of yearly maintenance
- Conducts appropriate laboratory and sterilization controls and maintain appropriate documentation
- Perform autoclaving duties upon completion of sterilization training
- Dispose of biohazardous waste according to OSHA standards
- Maintain department logs assuring adherence to DMG Safety/OSHA and blood borne pathogen policies and procedures
- Assure efficient patient flow through the site
- Prepares and stocks general exam rooms
- Escorts patient to exam rooms, obtains accurate vital signs
- Documents patient's medical history
- Provide high quality clinical care
- Scribe patient notes for physicians
- Review pre/ post visit instruction with patient
- Assist with collection and preparation of laboratory specimen
- Maintain specimen/procedure documentation in the patient medical record
- Ensure photographs are uploaded to patients chart
- Administrative Task
- Assist with pharmacy callbacks and returning pharmacy refills
- Performs patient callbacks as instructed by the Provider or Nurse
- Provide reception coverage as needed
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
License / Registration / Certification
- CPR certified
- Active Medical Assistant certification through one of the following required:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or Paramedic Program required
Experience- 2 years of experience with outpatient surgical procedures (dermatology or other surgical area) required
- 2 years documenting in an Electronic Medical Record
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)- Knowledge of PC/Keyboard skills and Microsoft office applications
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge and ability to identify surgical instruments
