Certified Medical Assistant - OB GYN Clinic Requisition #: 321203 Position Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the ambulatory practice functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. The CMA has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment. The CMA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when performing patient care. The CMA reports to the clinic manager or lead nurse, who is responsible for the administrative supervision and orientation of the CMA to the area’s policies and procedures. The CMA obtains vital signs, assists patient in preparation for examination/ procedure, records and documents in the medical record, ensures safe & efficient patient flow, administers medications and immunizations, and organizes the clinic environment to assure patient safety. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions at the highest level based on scope of practice. Knowledge: Familiar with medical terminology and documenting in electronic health record. Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program preferred. Work Experience: Requires successful interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, physicians and other health care team members in order to foster optimal quality of outpatient care. Shift: Day, Full Time (40 hours) 9:00 am -5:30 pm Non-Exempt Work Location: JHH, 600 N. Wolf Street Skills: The CMA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management and organizational skills. Required Licensure, Certification: Successful completion of the CMA, AAMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA or NHA (CCMA), Medical Assistant Certification, exam within 90 days of hire. Must maintain certification/ registration throughout employment. Valid CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years. Working Conditions: Works in a clinical environment where there are limited physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents, with little likelihood of harm when established health precautions are followed. Requires standing up for up to 100% of work-time and lifting and/or transferring heavy and/or instruments (routinely 30 lbs. or more) from one location to another with little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed. Requires the use of protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, hearing protection and infection prevention clothing/apparatus. Requires lifting and/or positioning patients and transporting wheelchairs and related equipment. May require contact with aggressive and/or combative patients.
