Work Shift: The hours are 3p-1130p Days Monday - Friday.
SUMMARY: Performs all duties necessary to support the process of decontamination and distribution of supplies and equipment in an efficient and safe manner, for optimum patient care according to Departmental/Infection Control Policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS
Responsibility I
1. Issue, deliver, retrieve and accurately fills orders for all supplies/equipment need to maintain efficient support of optimum patient care and maintain accurate inventories.
1.1 Makes out supply requisitions accurately/completely when necessary for requests
1.2 Checks and reviews thoroughly supply requests
1.3 Recommends to supervisor any additional supplies that may be needed
1.4 Assists with year end inventory as required
1.5 Retrieves and delivers requested equipment in a courteous manner as requested
1.6 Ensures accurate and prompt return of items to the patient care units(i.e. code carts)
Responsibility II
2. Disposes properly and efficiently decontaminates all patient care equipment.
2.1 Adheres to Infection Control Practices for decontamination with 100% complicance with Personal Protective Equipment
2.2 Ensures total accuracy for the cleansing of all patient care equipment per policy
2.3 Utilizes only approved cleaning solultions
2.4 Complies with proper procedures for cleaning work areas and carts

3. Maintains and insures disinfection of patient care equipment is processed by the use of high level disinfection of mobile medical equipment
3.1 Adheres to proper attire 100% of the time
3.2 Labels all patient care items appropriately
3.3 Ensure proper level of supplies
Responsibility VI
4. Utilizes material, equipment and time in a safe, therapeutic and cost effective manner.
4.1 Organizes workload to complete responsibilities within assigned shift.
4.2 Utilizes available equipment knowledgeably and effectively; reports malfunctions and other potentially hazardous situations to the nurse manager or designee.
4.3 Demonstrates self-motivation by using unassigned time to perform duties and facilitate the smooth functioning of the unit.
4.6 Reassembles equipment and supplies, readies for next deployment.
4.7 Identifies and removes non-functioning equipment from circulation and reports to Nurse Manager.
4.8 Sends non-functioning equipment to appropriate department for repair.
4.9 Identifies biomedical outdates and notifies the Biomedical Department.
4.10 Adheres to all infection control and aseptic technique principles.
Responsibility VII
5. Performs specific non-patient tasks.
5.1 Assists with maintaining the general cleanliness and appearance of all areas on the unit.
5.2 Cleans, restocks and maintains patient care supplies and equipment.(i.e. code carts, urology carts)

5.5 Restocks instruments in appropriate location once cooled after autoclaving Empties cart washer, drying carts and instrument crates reading them for deployment. Picks instruments for surgical procedures accurately following the pick sheets.

Completes case carts for next day as surgical instruments become available.

6. Guest Relations: Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and medical center personnel as defined in the philosophy of Vassar Brothers Medical Center
6.1 Displays a caring and courteous attitude and represents the hospital in a positive manner to all persons noted above.
6.2 Promotes and contributes positively to intra-departmental and inter-departmental relationships with no more than two complaints in a six-month period.
6.3 Maintains the confidentiality of employees and departmental information with no infractions
6.4 Adheres to departmental and medical center dress codes as observed by supervisor, and wears a VBMC picture identification badge, 100% of the time.
6.5 Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers and/or to accept additional assignments as requested to support the department's efficiency as observed by the supervisor (covers other duties as necessary during absence, vacation, or vacancy of other employees).
6.6 Responds to all supervisors’ requests for information and assists in a timely and courteous manner.
6.7 Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with people; uses tact, sensitivity and sound judgment at all times

7.11 Enhances team effectiveness through punctuality. This means reporting to work on time in accordance with medical center policy. More than a 5% lateness rate in a year is considered excessive.
